Reviews
- CarolMar. 20, 2023Needs work
Our room key would not work unless you stood there for awhile; they had to give us a lesson so we could get in our room. TV reception kept fading in and out; talked to manager and he said it was due to satellite problems. No hot water in the morning for showers, lukewarm.
- TriciaDec. 29, 2022Sketchy location
Although hotel itself was fine (outdated) please be aware that the photos advertised do not show the sketchiness of the area surrounding the hotel. It appears that the hotel has paid security as we saw multiple undercover cop cars patrolling the area. My family and I opted to not stay the night as we had a full car of items (moving cross country) and did not want to risk waking up to a smashed window or items missing from our vehicle. As we left the hotel we saw police conducting arrests on the street where the hotel was located. Very happy with our choice of not staying.
- JosephSep. 2, 2022Dogs At Wingate by Wyndham Memphis
The fact that they allowed all dogs at no additional expense and we were not given a smoking room (as we are non-smokers) made it greater than great!
- RobertJun. 29, 2022Not for me
No grass area for dogs to use, elevator broken, room smelled horrible, are didn't seem safe at all. Thankfully for a room at the downtown Sheraton. Police were out front when we left talking to some youths who were eyeballing our car when we arrived. My fault for not researching the area more. Hotel did seem well kept and clean inside.
- SalinaJun. 7, 2022Clean and quiet
This was the first stay with a pet in a “normal” room (carpet and all on the second floor). Very clean hotel inside; sketchy neighborhood and quite a bit of litter outside. Did have small grassy areas.
- MarioJun. 6, 2022Memphis
Affordable but no place to walk the dogs.
- CarolynMay. 24, 2022As a hotel, it was lacking
I had no issues checking in with my dog and cat - in a smart move probably prompted by others traveling with cats, the bathroom is smooth tiled and has a drain in the main portion of the bathroom as well as the shower itself, so you can close the door and have a safe, clean place to keep a litter box if you have a cat friend traveling with you. There isn’t much of a green area in the back for dogs, but it suits its purpose, and the trash can has a kick opener on the bottom so you don’t have to touch an icky pet-waste trash can lid! Never seen that before, absolutely love it.
As for the hotel itself: there was no hot water in my shower, and when it was brought to the attention of staff, they said to let the water run to warm up. I let it run for 15 minutes in hopes that it would eventually warm up, but nothing ever came. The vending machines did not work, and the pantry was not well stocked, so I had to go to the gas station to purchase bottles of water for the dog and cat to drink safely (I never trust local water.) Other than that, the bed was alright, not the most comfortable but I’ve slept on worse. Pillows had no substance to them whatsoever, and the hallway was noisy due to some rowdy neighbors.
Overall, perfectly acceptable place to spend one night, but wouldn’t stay for an extended time.
- JoelMay. 12, 2022Well run hotel!
We had a great stay at this hotel and would absolutely recommend this location to others. We traveled with a dog and a cat.
- JeffMay. 5, 2022Fast check-in
Besides having to fill out another pet form, the experience was great.
- SandyApr. 17, 2022Great experience!
Perfect for one night stay with pup. Clean room, comfy bed, everything worked, friendly staff, good breakfast! Will stay again!
- JanetMar. 27, 2022Noisy Inner City
Could have been cleaner, elevator kept stopping, noisy outside until very late.
- TedFeb. 12, 2022Wingate
Clean and spacious rooms. Walking area for our dogs required us go the local community college down street to a nice area to stretch our legs.
- AnnetteJan. 16, 2022Bad choice for us
There wasn't any breakfast as indicated when I made the reservation. The rooms need updated, the bathroom tub faucet had a hole around it. The vending machine was almost empty with few selections AND overpriced items. The ice machine was turned off. Advertised as pet friendly and there are almost no grassy areas and it's in a not so good part of town so you can't just take your dog off property for a walk. The only thing good was the bed, it was comfortable and fairly new.
- PatriciaNov. 21, 2021Clean room
Brought my two dogs and we were put in a very clean first floor pet room. Bed was not very comfortable and the tv was very glitchy (not holding a signal). Overall I would recommend because my dogs stayed for free and our room was clean and smelled clean.
- DianneNov. 9, 2021Wingate Memphis
The hotel is fairly nice but the employees were unfriendly and not very helpful. I did not get the king bed, room I reserved and had to take a room with two queens, I had to ask for toilet paper, the roll on the toilet paper roller only had a few sheets left. No breakfast was put out only small to go bags. I think the hotel could be a lot better under new management.
- MelanieOct. 21, 2021Nice place for stopover on road trip
Room was fine. Looks like they are remodeling hotel.
- PatSep. 9, 2021Wouldn't recommend
I expected much better from Wyndham. Not a lot of space for walking dogs. Grounds were dirty.
- AprilSep. 6, 2021Pet Friendly
Hotel was nice. Lots of other pet owners there. Pleasantly surprised there was a dog park close by as well. Memphis is definitely dog friendly!
- JoyAug. 8, 2021Great stay
Our first time to travel with our dog. Reception at Wingate from staff and other guests was friendly. No issues at all. Only suggestion would be more outside space for pets to exercise following road trip.
- CindyJul. 1, 2021Not so clean
There were long black hairs on the shower wall. We both have short grey hair. The grassy are for the dog is narrow and lots of poop. We expects a better accommodation for the price.
- AlanJun. 7, 2021Property seems like it's in a higher crime area
No issues with the room or the acceptance of my dog - she was welcomed. The room was clean and spacious. There was virtually no place to walk the dog or allow her to relieve herself. The parking area was in poor shape and there was trash and discarded food all around. The hotel collective in the area seems to have contracted a roaming security service - kind of unsettling.
- JosephMay. 10, 2021Disappointing stay
The location is close to places to eat, shop, easy access to 40 but there is some maintenance issues to fix. Room was good and comfortable, slight odor from the plumbing. This is an urban hotel so very tiny strips of grass for dog walking. Covid is still having to way with staffing and we were used to the restrictions.
- LisaApr. 11, 2021Beautiful, large rooms
Very clean and nice
- DawnDec. 22, 2020Not worth what I paid.
Room was dirty and not cleaned well. Not great for these COVID-19 times. Dead flies in the window, garbage behind chair and around dressers. Heat didn't work. If this little care was taken cleaning main areas, was it even disinfected properly?!? Super small strip for dog bathroom area and full of other dog poop - no room for dog to walk without stepping in other dog's poop. Lots of partying and noise.
- WilliamSep. 22, 2020Great Stay
Friendly staff, nice hotel & large, clean, comfortable room.
- EileenApr. 24, 2019Not As Good as In the past
This was our third stay as we travel cross country yearly. The room felt a little worn since last time. It also wasn’t as clean as in the past. The management is lovely and very eager to please. Breakfast is good but I may try a different hotel next time.
- MegApr. 14, 2019Overall Great Place For Pup Travels
Great hotel - lots of space in room. Downside is no dedicated outside pet area, so had to walk around local gas stations looking for potty spaces.
- BuckFeb. 26, 2019Shy Away
There is no excuse for bad ratings in Fido
Why chance it
Stay at Hyatt - MadelineMore than a year agoshady location
I booked this hotel without knowing there was a 50lb weight limit for dogs. Thankfully they didn’t deny us lodging with a 75lb dog, and I saw other guests with larger dogs also. But, honestly, this location is terrible. There is nowhere to walk your dog near the hotel, and believe me, you do not want to leave hotel grounds. It is a sketchy location. And there is just a small patch of grass in the back of the hotel for dogs. The walls are thin so you can hear the tv from next room and all doors close. There are other La Quinta Inns in Memphis so I would recommend looking at those.
- MartinMore than a year agoComfortable Hotel
Located just off Int 40, room was large and bed comfortable. Hotel is a bit east of downtown ( 20 minutes) Breakfast was adequate. Need to walk dog behind gas station next door but not a problem. Hotel does need to be upgraded although it felt clean.
