Thank goodness our dog alerted us that something was not right under the bed in our room. She wasn't going to leave her post until I went to investigate what she discovered. I was disgusted when I discovered a trail of French fries under that bed leading to a mouse glue trap COMPLETE WITH A CAUGHT DEAD MOUSE! With our dog wanting to get under the bed and get to the French fries and probably the dead mouse, I made a beeline to the phone to call the front desk, only to discover that THERE WAS NO PHONE IN THE ROOM. It's bad enough to provide a room with a built-in health hazard (dead, trapped mouse), but to also throw in a safety hazard (no phone in room) is unbelievable.
Needless to say, we packed our bags and made our way out of that hotel as quickly as we could. The hotel offered us another room in the same property, but given what we had just witnessed, there was no way on earth we were going to stay there. After checking into a nearby hotel, I immediately got on the phone with the Hilton Honors customer service desk and filed a complaint against that property. The general manager of the hotel did call me the next day to say she was sorry, but basically blamed the mouse "issue" on the age of the hotel (26 years old) and a field behind the property that presumably houses mice.
She didn't succeed, however, in answering to my satisfaction why the mouse was apparently lured to a do-it-yourself mouse trap by a trail of French fries under the bed. Is this even legal and allowed by health code standards? Shouldn't something like a rodent infestation be handled by professional exterminators? Moreover, no one bothered to check the do-it-yourself mouse trap for a trapped mouse before we were given that room! Shouldn't there be a procedure in place to ensure that a rodent infestation has been remediated before allowing occupancy?
I am appalled that nobody from corporate bothered to get in touch with me. After contacting the Hilton Honors customer service desk again, I was offered a compensation of 10,000 points! Understand that I can get a Hilton AmEx credit card for $95, receiving 130,000 points for doing so. That's 130,000 points for $95. That makes 10,000 points equivalent to $7.31 by my calculations.
Bottom line is Hilton has essentially brushed off our horrible experience at the Hampton Inn due to their lack of concern and their appalling $7.31 compensation! Never staying at Hampton Inn again, and now am questioning Hilton properties in general. We'll for sure seek out Marriott and Hyatt properties from now on when we travel.
