This photo was taken at Hometown Place in Olive Branch, MS. Today, July 19, 2024, I arrived at the Super 8 by Wyndham Olive Branch, having prepaid I just went in to pick up my room keys. Upon my entrance a young man and the clerk were involved in a heated conversation regarding the surprise $100 dollar cash refundable pet deposit that was on top of the $25 dollar pet fee. The $25 dollar pet fee is clearly listed on line, as well as accepting large dogs; however; the $100 dollar hold is only in the fine print and it does not state cash only on line as of the afternoon of 7-19-24. I politely asked for a refund because I was not aware of the cash only policy. I did not mention it out loud; but I also felt very uneasy with the manner in which the clerk seemed unable to understand or be willing to accommodate the cancelation of my reservation. When I asked for a refund the clerk told me that refunds were up to the agency that I booked with. The room was only $99; but, it was the principle of the whole thing that I found to be sneaky. My husband was outside with the dogs. I informed him of the situation and asked if he just wanted to pay the $100 and be done with it or go somewhere else. He did not want to stay there either and went in to ask about a refund. I stayed outside with the dogs. The clerk told my husband that only the manager could make refunds. My husband also felt as if the clerk was dismissive towards him. While still in the parking lot of Super8, I called Bring Fido and spoke with a lovely woman who told me that it was ultimately up to the hotel to decide if a cancelation refund was applicable. She suggested that I write a review and asked if I had taken any pictures or if I had the name of the clerk. My husband had already taken a picture of the sign stating the cash policy; but, I went back inside to ask the clerk his name. He kept asking me why I wanted his name, but after a few requests he said “Vickey”. Making sure I heard him correctly, I spelled out Vickey and he said that was correct. Then I took his picture. He was still combative and asked why I was taking his picture. I told him that it was for a review. At that moment his expression changed dramatically from what seemed like indifference and mild agitation to a rather solemn expression. I usually only write reviews for really good experiences. In this case I just wanted to let people know that it is worth driving out of the immediate Olive Branch area if you have a dog over 25 pounds. We ended up going 60 miles east to Tupelo, which was on our way the next day anyway, and stayed in the La Quinta there where we have stayed before and the people and faculty are nice as well as accommodating for dogs. My husband and I decided that we will never stay in a Super 8 hotel again.
