Folk Artist's Dog Stolen While Visiting Decatur

This photo was taken in Decatur, GA. My friend, Steve Meadows is a nationally known folk artist. He has work in many important museums around the U.S. One of his pieces was featured in a HGTV Dream House. He lives and works in the village of Palestine, IL at S.D. Meadows Folk Art Gallery. In December he and his traveling buddy, Oreo were visiting a friend and fellow artist, Claire Christin of Claire Was Here in Decatur, GA. Oreo is a black and white, Shih Tzu who had been Steve's girlfriend, Sharon's dog. When Sharon died of cancer about 2 years ago Steve and Oreo were of course devastated. In their sorrow they bonded tightly. I remember Steve standing there telling me of Sharon's death stroking Oreo. Oreo was really lost without his mommy. He whined at night unless Steve left a night light on for him. Since then the two are practically never without each other. It is a common site in our little village to see Steve and Oreo walking down Main Street or sitting in front of the business visiting with friends. Steve had to go to a folk art festival in Texas. Sometimes Oreo goes along but this time Steve left him with Claire. Oreo squeezed through a cat door and wandered to the nearby Redan Village Apts near the Indian Creek Marta Station. There a woman named Roslyn put him in her car and drove to Lithonia. She was going to keep Oreo for her daughter. However, a couple days later she gave him to a woman named Kimberly. When Oreo was sad and would barely eat she decided to surrender him to PAWS ATLANTA. Instead of taking Oreo inside she gave him to a woman that admired him in the parking lot. When questioned she could not provide any details. We don't know what name she was sing for Oreo. After Claire and her friends being unable to find Oreo, she hired an investigator that found the above information. Now we are trying to identify and find the woman that has Oreo. If you know of a woman in the Decatur/Atlanta area that got a Shih Tzu in the parking lot of PAWS Atlanta a few days before Christmas 2014 that is Oreo. He is 11 years old but sometimes very spunky. He has a black face with a white goatee. He does not have a white blaze. His belly and chest are white. He has a black marking that comes over his right shoulder onto his chest. He has black on his front legs 3/4 way down then white. His tail is black at the base then white. Please help us find Oreo. Steve's life especially his road trips are lonely with out him. In his sorrow Steve painted a notice on the van he and Oreo travel across the U.S. in to and from Folk Art shows.

Sincerely,

Teri A. Nash.
