    Fur Parents Beware

My husband and I boarded our dog at Camp Bow Wow Pittsburgh South in Castle Shannon while we went away on vacation. When dropping my dog off, I met Jan who was working at the front desk. She was very nice and welcoming, and reassured me that our dog would have a great time. The facility didn't smell very good, and it wasn't an ordinary dog smell either. Over the course of our vacation, we would occasionally jump on their camper cams. The few times we did watch, we found something we disliked each time. The first time, we watched a dog go to the bathroom in the indoor play yard. For the first 15 minutes, there wasn't even an employee with the dogs in the play yard. Once an employee finally came in, she didn't clean up the poop for another 20 minutes. All the while, dogs are congregating to sniff it and she walked past it numerous times. There is no reason dog feces should be left on the floor of the indoor play yards for almost 40 minutes. The next time we watched, there were so many dogs in the big dog play yards, it didn't look like the employee could keep control of all the dogs. She was constantly squirting dogs with a water bottle and then grabbed a hose and blasted two dogs right in the face. The play yards are quite small, which is understandable because the entire facility is not that big, but maybe there needs to be two employees in a play yard or not as many dogs. I came to find out that on Sunday's, the dogs are only out of their cages for about 2-3 hours in a 24 hour period. I don't care for that arrangement, but perhaps I should have done more research before my dog's stay. One afternoon I called in to check on our dog and spoke with a girl named Erin. She was very rude and short with me. Seemed like she didn't want to give me information on our dog and was quick to get off the phone with me. A few days later, we were finally home and going to pick up our dog. I walked in the doors and the employee at the front desk didn't acknowledge me right away. After being acknowledged, I came to find out that it was the same girl I spoke on the phone with. Erin was no different the day I picked up my dog than the day I called on the phone. She was still very rude and short, giving me one word answers when I asked her about my dog's stay. She finally brought my dog up, let my dog out of the gate, and slammed the gate door behind my dog. My pick-up experience with Erin was the complete opposite of my drop-off experience with Jan. Her attitude is horrible and so are social skills! I would say she is completely incompetent at her job and I would be ashamed to have someone like that representing my business, especially at the front desk! Another employee came from the back and brought the rest of my dog's belongings to me. The girl from the back commented how well-behaved our dog was during the stay and also commented that she thought our dog had a good time. I thanked her and walked out to my car. Once I got in the car, I noticed how badly our dog smelled. Sure, after a week's stay at the boarding facility, a dog is going to smell. But this smell was horrific, making me question how clean this facility actually is, especially in the back play yards and cages. I took my dog for a bath before going back home, and the smell was immediately ten times better! Needless to say, I was not at all satisfied with my dog's stay and the services provided at Camp Bow Wow Pittsburgh South. I would not recommend them to anyone! Compared to our new boarding facility, Camp Bow Wow is over-priced! We now board at The Dog Stop, and they offer so many more services for dogs at cheaper rates! We love The Dog Stop and recommend them to everyone!
