  Daycare Disappointment

  My husband and I brought our puppy to Tails R' Waggin Daycare for several months earlier this year. If you had asked me back then I would have given you glowing reviews - my puppy thoroughly enjoyed the daycare. My opinion of this facility dramatically changed over a short 10 day period. I was notified on a Friday while out of town there had been an incident with my puppy and another dog. I was told there had been issues for "months" between the two dogs - apparently the other owner was fully aware, but my husband and I were completely in the dark. When I took my dog back to daycare on Monday morning I waited to speak with the manager. I wanted to know what to expect going forward, would my puppy be asked to leave, etc. I was assured by the manager it was "not a big deal", that they loved my dog, "everyone has a bad day", etc. Monday was an uneventful day. Wednesday I brought my dog like normal and again, uneventful day. On Friday I was contacted that my dog had to be picked up immediately because there had been another incident with the same other dog. I was told if I could not come get my dog she would be crated for the remaining 4-5 hours of the day. I was forced to cancel my afternoon appointments, leave work early, and go pick up my dog. When I arrived to get my dog I could hear her howling and crying very loudly from the moment I walked into the door even though she was several rooms away behind two closed doors in a crate. No one from management was at the facility at the time. I spoke with the daycare assistant who was very nice, but new. She could provide no additional information, but stated she would have the manager contact me. I did not receive a call that evening. I did not receive a call Saturday or Sunday. On Monday morning my dog was scheduled for daycare and since I had not been contacted otherwise I drove her over there on my way to work. When I arrived the manager came out of her office and I was told they would no longer accept my dog. I was told my dog's presence in the group "challenged the alpha" and other dogs were misbehaving because of this. The manager had been bit by another random dog at the daycare on Friday - apparently because my dog was "messing up the vibe", although my dog was not directly involved in the incident. She also said "I know I should have called you this weekend, but I just didn't". Right - you didn't call. What you did was wait until you knew I would be coming (with my dog!) on my way to work to inconvenience me. I had to leave the daycare, go back home to put my dog up, and then drive to work - of course I was pretty late! We could argue all day about whether or not my dog should have been asked to leave - the reasoning, in my opinion is pretty questionable. But, my real issue with Tails R Waggin and the reason for a One Star rating is the incredibly poor customer service, poor management, and general lack of respect. My dog has attended two other daycares since leaving Tails R Waggin - one in town we use weekly and one out of town we use when she travels with us. She has had no issues at either of these facilities. I have spoken to others who work in the field - vet techs, other daycare assistants, etc. - and based on what they have told me I feel confident in saying the management and staff at Tails R Waggin are unqualified, unprofessional, and do not know how to properly manage a dog care facility.
