Roman's Holistic K9 Training

I'm a certified dog trainer, a certified Reiki II practitioner and a k9 systemic counselor.
Private in-home training or online via Skype or FaceTime

I'm considered a Holistic Dog Trainer because I train the whole ecosystem that the dog is living in. I work on environment, triggers, and address the whole dog, his/her experience, and improving the messages that are telling him/her how to respond. I also selectively implement alternative methods (reiki, crystal therapy, aroma therapy and systemic constellation) into my training where appropriate.

I have over a decade long experience in rescue, foster and behavior modification of large and XLarge breeds. Rescue organisations and Dog trainers consider me a molosser breeds specialist.

Over the past 6 years I have a strong presence on FB and am successfully coaching dog owners online via Skype or FaceTime around the world. I call this service, "Dog Trainer on Demand".
The assumption that one have to spend many hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars and endless time to effectively train your dog is inaccurate. As a trainer that has successfully worked remotely with a number of dog situations both nationally and internationally, I have seen rapid and dramatic results with my method of holistic dog training.
Balanced training methods (certified by Animal Behavior College);
Natural Training ( based on breed and environment);
Reiki healing (traumas, anxiaty, stress);

    He taught us how to train our dogs

    We called Roman after we had a bad experience with our 8 mod. German Shepard. He was great and gave us hope that Gunner would be a "good" dog. We had never had a trainer and we learned so much about how dogs think and we learned things about ourselves.

    Dutch and Gunner ( both GSD) enjoyed when Roman would come and they loved working with him.

    He taught us how to give Gunner confidence, and he is doing well.

    Roman also helped us out when we went away .....left Gunner with him and did not worry about him at all. Gunner still needs a lot of work, but with what Roman has taught us, he is doing well. Thanks Roman!

    You get to know "what is dog"

    Both his knowledge and insights into our Rescue Animals, from States away, are amazing enough, but is ability to break down the training program for our tough cases is what stands out the most. He can take an impossible situation and give steps to a solution anyone can follow. You get to know "what is dog" when you work with Roman. :)

    One stop canine behavior solutions

    I decided to foster for the first time and poor Gracie had such fear and anxiety issues. Roman worked with me and Gracie, helped me understand her needs and taught me how to deal with and help ease her anxiety issues. He is patient, understanding and so loving with the dogs. Thank you Roman!

    I have more control and feel more secure

    Roman came to NJ to help me out with my Cane Corso who had pulled me across a road and injured my arm. I discovered that I was misunderstanding the basic signals from my dog and I felt horrible. After training everything changed for the better. I now can understand my dogs behavior, specially when another dog approaches. I have more control and feel more secure in my dogs behavior.

    The answer my husband and I have been searching for

    Roman was the answer my husband and I have been searching for. We were looking for boarding and wound up doing boarding and training which our whole family desperately needed. I always feel nervous introducing my Akita to strangers, he is wary of people he doesn't know and Roman picked up on that immediately. He has a way with animals that is amazing. But it was more than that. He worked on the relationship between us and our dogs, pointing out that things that are going on in our lives effect them too and that many of his behavioral issues were stemming from myself and my husband. We aren't fixed, I call us a work in progress, but we have made significant progress from where we were when we started.

    He could teach the 'big TV dog trainer' a thing or two

    I have never met a human more gifted and more in tune with dogs than Roman. In my opinion, he could teach the 'big TV dog trainer' a thing or two because he treats the whole dog; even on an emotional level which is just as important. The Cane Corso we adopted from a rescue was rehabilitated by Roman and the wonders he did our beautiful boy is amazing. I can't say enough good things about him as a person and a trainer

    Sigmund the AmbassaDog

    I work at the largest Long Island municipal shelter. We had a young adult dog who was extremely fear / food aggressive; our staff was unable to handle him. In desperation I contacted Roman (upon recommendation) as Goliath had run out of options. Roman came, met the dog, spent time assessing him and took Goliath. That dog is now Sigmund and is Roman's Ambassadog!

    Fortunate to have an ally

    I have been a specialized dog rescuer, adopting the worst abuse cases from around the nation since 2003. Previous to that I spent some years rescuing and training horses using Soft Training Techniques. Since 2003, I have worked mostly with Great Pyrenees, but have 21 dogs of various breeds right now, most of which are large dogs. Currently seven of my dogs are Great Pyrenees, all with former issues that made them declared untouchable and/or unadoptable. Although Roman and I are miles apart we have often talked in length about the different rescue techniques we have used to help dogs with a difficult backgrounds that deemed them unadoptable and what we can do to help them. I have always found his advice and suggestions very effective in resolving problems with troubled dogs. I follow Roman's writings online as well, I have been fortunate to have Roman as an ally and resource in the work I do. Not long ago, I had a very difficult case with a three year old Pyr, a former breeding dog in a backyard breeding situation. I could not figure why she was so calm 99% of the time until she almost killed my biggest 150+ pound male Pyr. Roman and I spoke on the Video Chat for over an hour that day, he made me understand my dog. He has an innate understanding of dogs (and people) and without meeting her, he came up with an individual plan for her. He directed me to follow his plan and dog training techniques for a month and the treatment was completely effective. I have not only a calmer dog, but a calmer pack of 14 dogs overall. Roman has been instrumental helping me understand a side of these individual issues I was missing and a new insight into understanding Great Pyrenees body language better. He's helped me get down to the real issues of dog behavior training that are hidden below the acting out in fear or aggression. Grey Muzzle Rescue has a securely fenced 5+ acre, no leash, free roam sanctuary. All of our dogs need to be calm and under control to do this. Now I have all the dog training tools I need. I respect and appreciate the friend I have made, and look forward to working with Roman in the future when I have issues I am not seeing clearly. I consider him an authority on Great Pyrenees and other large working breed dogs.

    Master of the dog species

    I didn't realize how much help I would need with my Giant Schnauzer puppy until after I lived with him for a period of time. I struggled with his desire to jump and wanted to instill good manners in him at a young age. I had the good fortune of meeting Roman and have been extremely impressed with his immediate ability to connect with my dog. His gentle yet serious and loving manner have proved the perfect combination in curbing the habits that were once exhibited by Achilles. I have also had the opportunity to leave my dog in Roman's care for several days. His natural desire to care for dogs along with his kind and professional manner allowed me to get away with one less concern. If you are looking for a person who is a master of the dog species- look no further than Roman Gottfried.

    (He gets the 5th star back when he returns to Connecticut!)

    From aggressive to K9-police training

    Roman is amazing! With out him Hector would not be the dog he is today. Hector was labeled "aggressive" and was pretty much disregarded by everyone until Roman. Roman was the only person who saw the true soul under the fear. Hector now is very social, qualified for police K-9 unit training and LOVES all other animals. I could go on with so many stories of how Hector had surprised us with his patience and compassion towards all animals and people. He is my little man and I owe it all to Roman.
