    Lunch

We ate there yesterday. Very clean outdoor area for those with dogs. There was a dog water area and my dog got a free doggie ice cream topped with small bones. The food was plentiful and very good and the staff were very friendly. We were sightseeing in the area but if I were in that area again I would definitely eat there again.

    Pet And People Friendly!

This place has the nicest staff, pet-friendly amenities, and great food. The grounds and picnic tables are clean and tidy with staff working hard to keep it that way. There is a dog fountain and pet waste bags available if one is needed. We were greeted by a staff member who gave our pug, Fenn, a treat and a bandana. He was instantly made famous with a photo for The Red Barn Facebook page. We were passing through Augusta today and searched Bring Fido for a good lunch place and this was it. We will come again in the future when we are traveling through.

Pet friendly place goes out of its way!

Wife and I ate here today for lunch with our pet corgi. We were impressed as soon as we pulled in. A sign in the parking lot states it is pet friendly and also is marked in the parking lot. There were 2 reserved parking places up front for Purple Heart veterans. A port-a-pot in the parking lot is handicap accessible with signage indicating this. There are about 25 picnic tables outside with at least 2 being handicap accessible also with signage marking them. Never seen that before.
There were plenty of trash cans around the picnic area along with separate containers for recycling. The speaker outside was loud and clear for us to hear our order being called. 50's music was playing out there.
I ordered the haddock lunch and let me tell you, it was good and filled me up. The cups the tartar sauce and ketchup for the fries come in are large and not the small ones you see at McDonalds. I went inside to order ice cream and this place was packed. All the staff was friendly and smiling and not on their phones; someone you don't see today.
The grassy area in the picnic area was well manicured; something our dog appreciated.
I can see why this place is a favorite amongst locals.
Some minor room for improvement: perhaps a dog waste station next to one of the trash cans - one that dispenses dog waste bags, although most responsible pet parents already have them, but you don't know when you run out. Second is to put some bowls of ice water out for dogs. It was 92 today when we were there. I didn't see one of there was. Third, is there were only 3 umbrellas over 25 of the picnic tables. Not sure if there are more and just wasn't put out but we were lucky and got one that did. Lastly is that there was a Denmark national flag on the same flagpole as the US national flag. Section 7g of the US Flag Code states: "When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size."
So perhaps adding a second flagpole for that and putting the Maine state flag below the US flag.
Overall this place really impressed me. They go out of their way to cater to pet parents, veterans, and physically handicap people. The staff is very friendly and the food came out hot and quick. I hope this place continues to reach out to those groups and continues its excellence! I will leave a cross review on TripAdvisor
