Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar
- AldenJan. 15, 2023No longer allow dogs inside
They reportedly started serving food during the pandemic, and unfortunately no longer allow dogs indoors at all. In nice weather, it sounds like dogs are allowed on the patio. Still a great place! But not dog friendly inside
- WilliamSep. 12, 2022Battery Park Book Exchange
We went into the Book Exchange today and something seemed off: There were absolutely no pups anywhere to be found. It seems that since they are now "preparing food" dogs are no longer allowed [inside]. While dogs can be exiled to the patio outside- tables are too cramped to allow larger pups. It was [dog friendly inside] before the pandemic but now that is definitely no longer the case. I tried to give it zero bones to help drive that point home but one bone is the lowest it can be scored.. Don't bring your pup- it will be a disappointment.
- JoelNov. 27, 2021Looks great from the outside...
This excellent Restaurant (not a Coffee and Champagne only place anymore), does not allow our fido's inside anymore. They have an okay patio area but did not seem the place it was promoted as.
- DianeNov. 12, 2021Outdoor only
Reading the description on this app, I thought our dog would be allowed in while we browsed, but that was not the case. We sat outside and had a champagne drink and a charcuterie board and the staff was very welcoming of her (and us!).
- EnnesaOct. 3, 2021Busy patio- no dogs allowed inside
The patio was VERY busy. You are not allowed to go inside with your pup but they have the patio. So if you are looking for a dog friendly bookstore.. this is not it. The server will bring your dog some water so thats great. The outdoor seating is very tight though so our 50 pound dog had to move around to allow people to walk around and let the server reach the tables past us. The seating was not the most sturdy. I was nervous I would fall out the chair and definitely did not feel comfortable strapping my dogs leash to the table. Beautiful store/restaurant but not as dog friendly as it was before.
- JohnJul. 27, 2021Update 2021
First, the staff was super, the food excellent, and the experience was great as well. However, since they serve more food dogs are no longer allowed in the store as they have expanded food service inside and it is a health code violation. Plenty of outside seating available though and well worth a stop to eat.
- CynthiaJul. 25, 2021Not exactly dog friendly.
While dogs are not allowed in the shop they can relax in the patio. The staff brought Norm some water and we’re all very sweet to him.
- MollyJul. 15, 2021Misleading…
While dogs are allowed outside on the patio of the restaurant/bar portion, they are NOT allowed inside the book store…which is one of the main reasons I came here.
- LynetteMar. 9, 2021Fantastic Sunday Brunch
We enjoyed a beautiful Sunday Brunch outside with our dog. Everyone was very friendly to our dog and he even got a treat. Fantastic bookshop and the food and cocktails were great.
- JocelynFeb. 21, 2021Amazing Spot! Great champagne, books and dog friendly (sort of).
I love the Battery Park Book Exchange! Has always been a great spot to get a drink, some small plates with an amazing book finds. For years it has been super dog friendly to the point your pup could hang inside! However as of February, 2021 dogs are no longer allowed inside. I spoke to the owners who hope the change will not be permanent. Dogs are still allowed at the patio tables outside. There are treats and water for your pups! Can’t wait to go back... once it warms up!
- MelissaDec. 3, 2020Amazing Time!!
we stopped by after finding this place on BringFido with a little bit of reservation after reading new reviews saying it wasn’t so dog friendly anymore. BUT!! it was great! we sat outside with a heater to listen to the live music (we didn’t ask about indoor seating) but they brought us a blanket for both of our dogs to snuggle on the outdoor couch with us and gave us some dog treats along with our charcuterie board! they also just got outdoor heaters which made it so much cozier!!
- JeanetteOct. 16, 2020Outside only
Dogs not allowed inside
- MarciSep. 10, 2020Dogs Aren’t Allowed Inside Anymore
I was camping with my dog and looking for somewhere to get inside since it was raining. I had seen all the great reviews of this place, so I wanted to check it out. When we got there, we were informed 1) we weren’t allowed to sit anywhere inside but 2) dogs were no longer allowed inside either. Big bummer! Luckily we were able to go inside next door at the Grove Arcade for a bit.

Our dog was welcomed with open arms at this cute champagne bar. The employees were so sweet giving him pets and all the treats! This was truly one of the best place we took our pup while we were in Asheville! Great wine and great atmosphere!

This is such a cool idea and I absolutely love that dogs are allowed INSIDE as well as outside. My dog received treats and water from staff and I enjoyed having a cocktail on the pretty patio!

- LeanneMore than a year agoThe Dog Friendliest!
Most dog friendly places usually consist of outdoor patio tables. This place has those, but your dogs are welcome inside too! The bookstore has a great feeling to it, and there are tons of couches and chairs to sit on. Plus, there's wine! Everyone was super friendly to my boys, and the staff even gave them a plate of treats. I highly recommend.
- More than a year agoFabulous
Top choice wines and champagne drinks. Knowledgeable staff. A cool selection of books to peruse, and nicely arranged nooks for reading or visiting with friends. My dog Jackie loves it here.
