  Disappointed to hear no longer dog friendly

  After many years of visits for the delicious food and pet friendly patio we were disappointed to hear the patio is no longer pet friendly. I recently attended an educational seminar on the difference of service dogs and therapy dogs. Since we travel with our dogs I posed the question about pet friendly patios. The expert stated that it is purely the owner of the restaurant’s prerogative as to whether or not they are pet friendly on their outside seating. Of we are not sure what happened here for the change in policy. It’s just disappointing as we really were looking forward to wine and relaxing on the patio with our pups.

  Michigan is not dog anymore. not even on patio !!!!!!’. new state laws.

  Great Service

  They allow dogs on the outdoor patio, which is pretty small. Keep that in mind as there are other dogs and people close by. It’s also a space that is shared with people who don’t have dogs or might not like them. the waiter brought us fresh water and treats for our pup! Call ahead for reservations during peak times.

  Need a little patience

  Very busy in the summer and many people other than pet owners want to dine/drink on the patio. Wait was about 45 minutes. Waiter was great, brought the pups fresh water. Food was great as well.

  Don’t want to even give one-Could not seat our party

  I called just to make sure we would be ok to dine there. I told them our count and was only told they do not take reservations and that it might be a wait. we waited for about an hour and they still couldn’t seat us. they were unable to accommodate our party and told us that chairs are not to moved unless okayed by the waiter. we had an odd number and they wanted to seat us 4 in one, 2 in another. and leave the one kid hanging?!?! they were very inconsiderate of the time we waited for our table and felt like we weren’t wanted there. Maybe if you have a small party they’re more accommodating, but none of those restrictions were mentioned on the phone when I called. we wasted our time.

  Great view!

  Great location! From the patio you can watch boats coming and going, as well as get a great view of the lighthouse. Friendly staff, and one of the few places in South Haven that’s dog friendly on the patio.

  Great food and great service!

  The waitress immediately brought out a bowl of water for my dog and refilled my drinks promptly also!

  Ignored by waiter

  Don’t know if he didn’t like dogs or just people who only order water, but we waited over 10 minutes while he took the orders of two tables that were seated after us. Hostess was nice and brought treats. After that, no good.

  Great Dog Friendly Place—with a view!

  After not having much luck with dog friendly places (South Haven Brewpub is NOT dog friendly, even though TripAdvisor and their website says so!) we stumbled upon this place and they were great!
  The patio has a view of the lake, they brought cold water and offered treats for our dog. The waitress also asked if our dog needed dinner and they could bring out a plain chicken breast. Very accommodating and kind at the Black River Tavern!!

  Great lunch on the patio

  one of the very few places to dine in South Haven with your dog. we had a great lunch. the server brought water for our dog. All the out door tables were other families with dogs. it was a great lunch.

  Great location & service

  the patio is dog friendly and the waitress brought out ice water but beware there’s not a lot of shade so our black German Shepherd got warm fast and it wasn’t even dead of summer! great food, good location, and service was excellent!

  Dog Friendly Patio

  Enjoyable lunch with patio seating for our pup. Our waitress was very accommodating and brought out hot water to mix into our pups freeze dried rice and beef meal. Great location near all the shops and took a nice walk to the light house.

  Great!

  They allow dogs on the patio. The food here is really good. We were here mid/end of September and the weather wasn’t too hot, it was perfect. I didn’t see any shade or umbrellas although maybe during warmer times there might be. Great location.

  Great Food & Service!

  The menu had so many options--I got the fish & chips. Very good! The service was excellent and the fact that I could eat on the patio with my 2 dogs was a huge plus!
