I was walking around downtown Portland yesterday and was hoping for a place to sit outdoors and have a beer and something to eat. I had my 6# dog with me. I’ve been to Thirsty Pig before but not with my dog. I enjoy their vegan sausage as well as the beer choices. There was no signage regarding dogs so I walked in the front door, carrying Einie, and a woman quickly came towards me. I asked about food , beer and having my dog there and she directed me to go outside, down the alley and come in the back where dogs are allowed on the tarred area. Ok. We did as directed. There was no signage. No direction as to: how do we order food, drink, anything? There was 1 q code on 1 table so I scanned it. It directed me to the menu and said it would be a 20-25 minute wait. There were no customers inside and only 2 tables occupied outside. There were bowls of dirty water at each table for the dogs, no service, no help. I know …COVID…..we’ve all heard it, we get it. But, NO service? I felt unwelcome. I won’t be back.

The food is fine, standard pub fair, good beer selection, but to call it “dog friendly” is a stretch. Dogs are allowed on the lower outside deck; basically a paved area with tables. Most truly dog friendly locations would understand how hot the pavement gets in the summer and would make arrangements. There were a few water bowls around, but we used our table water to fill them. In order to get 5 bones, I expect the staff to recognize that a dog is present (we had a golden retriever puppy who is well behaved and draws much attention from staff, not here.). Throwing out a few water bowls does not make a place “dog friendly.” We’re heading back to Portland next week and we’ll be looking for a different lunch spot. A place that actually likes having dogs around.
- NancySep 17, 2020Super Cute, Delicious Food!
I think my son and I would give more than 5 stars if we could! The outdoor patio is a really nice environment- brightly colored painting against the old brick and ivy of downtown Portland- He had a plain hot dog but said it was the best hot dog of his life- which is saying a lot! I tried the blueberry chicken sausage and I swear it got more delicious with every bite! spicy dill chips and organic lemonade rounded out his meal, and I tried local honey wine- It was fantastic- My only gripe is having to order up at the counter inside, so if u were alone u would have to leave your dog alone outside- but they do bring your order out to you when it’s ready- We highly recommend to those who love hot dogs- and their dogs!

The lower level of the patio is dog friendly. There are several picnic benches and tables. The food and beer selection is good.
- PatrickAug 20, 2019Awesome Place For Dogs!
This is the second time we’ve brought the pups to The Thirsty Pig. Not only is the food and drink fantastic but the way they handle dogs is also great. Dogs typically are always out on the lower back patio and they have plenty of water bowls and there’s usually other people out with their own friendly dogs here too. Overall a great place to bring the pups.
