This Mexican restaurant on NE Douglas Street has three dog-friendly tables outside. The story behind the first Jose Pepper's is colorful. In 1986, Jose Pepper's parents disappeared mysteriously and bequeathed their son twenty-six dollars and his mother's recipe book. With this book in hand, Jose knew he should honor his parents by opening a restaurant built on the foundations of his mother's cooking. Today, they specialize in enchiladas and offer a variety of classic and modern fillings, such as chicken and avocado enchiladas, seasoned chicken in two corn tortillas baked with jalapeno cream sauce, topped with guacamole and served with Mexican rice and refried beans.
