- RoseanneJul 15, 2019Amazing Food, Great Atmosphere
We came to Poggio after a day of hiking in the Marin Headlands and playing at the beach with our dogs. The entire staff was incredibly accommodating to us and our dogs, seating us on the patio, far away from other diners with dogs (so grateful for this). They immediately brought a bowl of water for our dogs and never once during our evening did they act as if the dogs were any sort of inconvenience. The waiter was perfectly friendly and had great suggestions for some staff favorites on the menu, which did not disappoint. The tuna tartare was out of this world and the rest of our meal was equally outstanding...simply amazing food!!!!!

Absolutely delicious Italian dishes. Pasta highly recommended, especially the agnolotti. Lovely small dishes to share as well. And best of all, comfortable outdoor seating where there’s ample room for both you and your dog, no matter what size! Will definitely be going back!!

Friday was our 5th wedding anniversary - we held our wedding reception at Poggio in 2008 - and we like to go back to celebrate. This last Friday was no exception to the wonderful meals we've had in the past (even as recently as three weeks ago). But this time we tried something new - we took our dog with us. They have outdoor tables and our dog was able to join us (we figured he was due for a night out with us since he was at our wedding). As for sitting outside, it was fun to people watch and although the evening wasn't too cool, they do have heat lamps that provided enough extra heat that we were able to enjoy dinner without our jackets. As we've grown to expect, our waiter, this time Alexande, and the rest of the staff treated us extremely well. Our first courses were well prepared (I had the soft shell crab - and it was excellent); our main courses consisted of the salmon and pork chop. But, here's my only criticism for the restaurant (resulting in four stars this visit): not everyone is into the "seared" approach to fish and meat. Depending on how you like fish or meat cooked, the waiter should let you know how the chef thinks it should be cooked so you can let the chef know exactly how you expect it to come from the kitchen. He asked about the salmon, but not the pork, so mine came as I asked to have it prepared but my husband's pork came a little too pink for his liking. He ate it (so can't criticize the restaurant for not thinking it should have been prepared differently). We enjoyed sorbet and gelato for dessert but would have enjoyed a couple of fresh fruit offerings. So, we'll head back again for sure. And the dog can attend as well.
