    Dog Friendly + Dog Menu

Offered us indoor or outdoor seating. Opted for outdoor and got a burger for the pup from the doggie menu. Great service and perfect spot for people and pup watching along Ocean.

    Excellent food

+ Attentive service, great food, nice atmosphere, love dogs
    - little space for dog (on front patio, private group on back deck), expensive
Logan gladly lied under chair, but couldn’t move much. Highly recommend.

    weekend getaway

All over Carmel by the sea there are dog friendly shops. We chose this restaurant based on the ratings. Unfortunately our experience was not so friendly. When I walked in to grab a table I told them two and our dog. The waiter looked at me and said oh a dog? I told him I read the place was dog friendly but if it isn't we can go elsewhere (it was a nicer place). He quickly took me outside and around the back to the patio where there were two other dogs. There was no water bowl of water offered to my pup and every time the waiter came by he was very short with us. I am not sure if it was us (being a younger couple) or our pup, who was intrigued by all of the dropped food around every table. Our dog is not a barker nor is she a growler. She is very friendly, but curious about new smells and strange environments. I would not recommend this place unless your dog just wants to lay down under the table. Our dog prefers to stand and greet people as they walk up with a smile and tail wag. The food was tasty, but the experience was over priced and pretentious. We will not be returning to this establishment.

    Dinner with the Dog

We ran across this place after being turned away at Le St. Tropez because we had our dog (they had a private party on their patio), We were warmly welcomed and led to their back garden terrace. They quickly brought our dog a bowl of water. They offered to turn on the heaters but we didn't need them. They have a nice wine list and a full bar. The menu was a variety of Italian, Spanish and French. I ordered the bisque and I could have had 3 more bowls, it was that great. My husband had the caesar, which was bland. He ordered filet mignon, which was chewy. The filet came with shrimp scampi, which he reports was the best scampi he'd ever had. I ordered the shrimp alla diavolo (sp?) and it was surprisingly bland. The service was attentive. The decor was mediocre. I would have given this 3 stars because for the prices (our bill was $150, plus tip), I would expect better food. However, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming and attentive and that bisque was amazing, so they got an extra star.

    Memorable Christmas Dinner

We spent Christmas in the Carmel/Monterey area. Portabella was one of the few places open on Christmas Day and helped make our holiday vacation a very memorable one. Heated, covered patio in the back allows pets, complete with silver water bowl served on top of linen napkin and chinaware. Menu has a southern European flair. We ordered crab cakes, angel hair pasta with seafood, and paella Valenciana -- all of which were magnificent. Expect to pay $20+ for lunch and $30+ for dinner, but portions were generous and extremely well-prepared.

    Great lunch!

Dick from the Pipe Shop recommended Portabella and their dog-friendly patio. Our two dogs got their ice bucket of water even before us humans received our glasses. The service was great, the server was genuine and knew her wine and food. The dogs slept happily on the patio while we had incredible mushroom bisque and goat cheese raviolis.

Perfect setting and wonderful food. The dogs were happy and so were we!
