Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Austria with your pet:
  • Dogs, cats and ferrets must be at least 16 weeks old to enter Austria.
  • Pets traveling from Europe to Austria must have an EU Pet Passport.
  • Pets must travel into these border crossing points where animal health checks are conducted, Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz-Thalerhof and Klagenfurt, in order to enter Austria.
  • Pets must be identified by an ISO-compliant microchip. If your pet has a working microchip, but it is not ISO compliant, you will need to travel with your own scanner that can read the microchip or have a second microchip implanted that is ISO compliant. Make sure both microchips are listed on the health certificate.
  • Pets 12 weeks or older must be vaccinated against rabies more than 21 days before travel and after the microchip is fitted. For all pets vaccinated in the United States, a primary rabies vaccination is only valid for 1 year. Even if your pet is an adult animal and receives a 3-year vaccine, if it is a primary rabies vaccination according to EU rules, it is only valid for 1 year.
  • After the pet’s USDA Accredited Veterinarian has been completed and signed the EU/UK Health Certificate, it must be endorsed by your USDA APHIS Veterinary Services Endorsement Office within 10 days of your pet's arrival.
  • You will also need to fill out the owner declaration (attached).
  • The maximum number of pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) that may accompany the owner or an authorized person must not exceed five. This maximum may be exceeded if the animals are traveling for the purpose of participating in competitions or sporting events, the owner provides written evidence of registration for the event, and the pets are over 6 months old.
