Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Belize with your pet:
  • Belize is a high risk country for rabies. Before receiving an import permit, travelers must obtain 2 pictures of their pet's front teeth, a CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record, a serologic titer from an approved laboratory and a passport photo of the owner. Once these items are obtained, apply for a permit for your pet to return to the U.S. at this link. For further guidance on importing your pet to Belize, contact the CDC directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov
  • People bringing dogs or cats into Belize must present a valid import permit from BAHA.
  • Meet conditions of importation that accompany the valid import permit.
  • Pets also require an international health certificate obtained within 14 days of travel and a valid rabies certificate obtained more than one month in advance and under a year of travel date.

Quarantine Information

Quarantine inspection at the port of entry is required for all dogs and cats. Dogs and cats coming from countries considered at risk (for example, there is the risk of screwworm in dogs and cats coming from South America) will need to undergo veterinary inspection at the port of entry. There is an additional fee for veterinary inspection.
