Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Canada with your pet:
  • For dogs younger than 3 months old arriving from the U.S., a rabies vaccination is not required, but you must be able to provide proof of the dog's age and they must appear healthy. Domestic cats arriving from the U.S. younger than 3 months old do not require a rabies vaccine, but you must provide proof of the cat's age for entry into Canada.
  • For dogs 3 months of age and older arriving from the U.S., you must provide proof of ownership of the dog as well as a valid rabies vaccination certificate written in English or French issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian that identifies the animal's age, breed, sex, color/markings, weight, microchip/tattoo number and date of vaccination with the serial number. This certificate should also specify the duration of immunity (otherwise, it will be considered valid for 1 year from the date of vaccination). Dogs must also appear healthy to be approved for entry into Canada. Domestic cats arriving from the U.S. 3 months of age or older must have a valid rabies vaccination certificate or veterinary certificate.
  • The European Union pet passport is an acceptable alternative to the rabies vaccination certificate.
  • Follow the Automated Import Reference System requirements in the link provided above.
