Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Portugal with your pet:

  • Pets must be microchipped for identification purposes before entry into Portugal.
  • If traveling from the United States, obtain a USDA pet certificate from a certified veterinarian within 10 days of travel with proof of rabies vaccination.
  • Pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days before travel.
  • Dogs, cats and ferrets do not require a rabies antibody test if arriving from a low risk country like the United States
  • Pets traveling from EU countries should be accompanied by an EU Pet Passport or a booklet with all information about microchip and vaccination. If you decide to bring a booklet, an official health certificate is also required.
  • Be sure to contact point of entry you plan to travel to and notify them of your arrival at least 48 hours prior. Animals are subject to veterinary checks at the port of entry.
  • Pets must be at least 15 weeks old to be allowed entry into Portugal.

Quarantine Information

Pets traveling to Portugal do not need to be quarantined if they meet all the necessary requirements listed above.
