Carolyn Meeker Dog Park and Nature Trail

The Carolyn Meeker Dog Park (aka Lutz Dog Park) is approximately 2 acres and separated into a large dog area and small dog area. A pond sits in between both dog areas. At the main parking area (122 1st Avenue SW) there are entrances for both dog areas and the nature trail. The main parking lot is graveled, has concrete handicap parking area, a bulletin board with information of interest, a handicap accessible Portolet and a human/dog water fountain. There is a second large dog area entrance with its own parking area next to John’s Butcher shop (102 1st Avenue SW). Both dog areas have benches to sit on and poop bag dispensers. I've lived in this area for at least 5 years and it took me using this app to find this park. There weren't many dogs there and it's not like it's hidden, but I doubt you would find it unless you're a local. Thinking on behalf of the dogs, the park was perfect. We used the big side because we have two huskies and they had so much room to run, jump, and play. There was a lot of dirt like some reviewers said but not really that big of an issue in my opinion. I think owning a dog you should expect your life to be less tidy. I didn't go into the small dog park but I did get a look at it from the entrance and it looked grassier and had way more dogs to play with. There were even some big dogs in there. I think some people prefer it because the big park bends around the corner and can you make you feel like you may never catch your dog. Poop bags were provided at the main gate and there are several giant buckets full of water. There was also a fenced seclusion area by the bathrooms which was nice and big and would still allow your pet room to play. The humans get a couple of benches and a plastic table with several plastic chairs. The bathrooms are gross and since that could of been a huge plus considering most dog parks don't even have bathrooms, this was my one complaint.

    more dirt than grass

This is a large park with 2 separate sides for big & small dogs. Unfortunately there is more dirt than there is grass so your dog will definitely need a bath after coming here. The park seems kind of dirty in itself (no soap in the bathrooms) but it's a dog park, so I'm not asking for much - just a nice big space for them to run.
