great location , but there are too many dogs off-leash

The rules state that leashed pets are welcome, but beware:
no one is there to check whether or not the dogs are leashed, and so, unfortunately, more leashes than not seem to come off at this place, than not. Quite a disappointment to dog owners who obey leash laws, OR to the dog owners who were wanting to get their leash-reactive or fearful dogs out for a nice sensory walk in nature, only to turn any corner and have their pups greeted by one or more off-leash dogs, with the old familiar and tone-deaf call from their owners " it's okay, they're friendly !".
True, that your unleashed dog may be friendly.
Also true, someone else's leashed dog may not be friendly, and they may actually be terrified that your 'friendly' dog is charging at them in the name of 'goodwill'.
How about we level the playing field and keep them all on leash, like the park rules and regulations state ?

    Great hidden walk

Lots of trees, shade, and things to smell. There are multiple paths you can take, some going uphill, so it feels like a mini hike without having to drive far.

    Fun spot for dogs !

pretty park with lots of cool space. it’s actually a lot smaller than I thought it would be. we walked around the whole park and it was almost 2 miles . one of the other downsides is coyotes . if you have a small dog and let them off leash def bring your coyote vest.

dogs do need to be on leashes but if no one is around and you have an iron clad recall you can take your dogs off leash. my dogs loved this place and we will be back !

Very nice walk - reminiscent of days in Australia

This is not really an off leash fenced dog park although it does seem you are able to let your dog walk off leash along the trails. The trail is quite long - we walked for over 15 minutes and didn't get to an 'end'. It has two parts - one part runs between the Avalon entrance and the entrance off Blue Heron street which is really the main part of the park with all the Gum trees, and the second part is actually the Hellman Ranch trail which is very nicely maintained and has some markers with information on the native Indian tribe , including how to say the numbers 1-10 in the local native Indian language.

The smell of gum trees hit me as soon as we got out of the car. Really was a very nice afternoon walk.

feels like your in the mountains

Gum grove is a fav for myself as I love nature. This park is hidden and not many people know about it. Although it is beautiful and serene. It's not very big. It take about 10 min to walk the length of the park. There are other trails but all close together. I would bring my Sadie dog but I always have to keep an eye out cause there are many coyotes and other wildlife out there. Especially now with so many. So be careful and prepare to walk up some steep hills!
