    For real Dog people

Ewe-Topia is a great place for people who understand dogs are dogs and not your children. That they require structure and rules and that it is not okay for your dog to be in charge of you.
If you are not in control of your dog and it is jumping on every one running up to other dogs and getting in their face the owners and people that work here will correct your dog for doing so. Most the time this is because it is obvious you can't handle your own dog and need some guidance on how to not let your dog walk all over you.

My Berger Picard loves coming to Ewe-topia. He will start out trying to eat the sheep as dinner when we first arrive but by his second lesson you can see that he respects the trainer in the pen and doesn't try to charge for the sheep legs. My Picard needs a firmer hand than some other dogs and if you don't have a stronger will then him he will make your life terrible.

My other dog Keebler is much softer and needs lots of encouragement. His first time coming he only tried to play with the sheep but still had them moving which was good. He got lots of praise for interacting with the sheep as you could tell he was really unsure. Our second time going he actually started realizing what he was suppose to do and you could see the switch go off in his head. He absolutely loved it and was encouraged the entire time. He is very sensitive and the trainer knew exactly how to talk to him to get him to do what she wanted.

Ewe-Topia is equipped and experienced enough to handle any dogs needs. That doesn't mean that all owners are ready to hear that they did not do a good job of establishing rules and boundaries with their dog and the owners at Ewe-Topia will put them in their place on their property to maintain the peace that most other dogs and owners seem to understand.

    Couldn't give it a zero

I was so excited to come here and maintained that enthusiasm for the first hour I waited for my dogs turn to PRA rice herding. The old mam running the place broke a PVC pipe o er my dogs back when he hit him on the spine!!! My dog was terrified and limping. I don't have qualms with boundaries and discipline when training working dogs but blatantly whacking a dog on an extremely vulnerable spot is not OK. In between sessions in the herding ring Joe would do one on one behavioral training with dogs. He worked with one dog who was a leash puller and his means of training was 'correct ing' this poor cattle dog by yanking its choke chain so tight that its feet barely touched the ground while simultaneously bashing it in the fa e with a laundry detergent bottle half full of gravel. The dog was cowering and hunlered to the ground trying to stay as far from Joe as possible while the owner looked on with worry.

People who stand up for this facility may have had great personal experiences there but have no right judge others for standing up to the straight up abuse happening here. There are many ways to train dogs but the methods at ewe topia are medieval.

    Look what I did Mom!

This is not a play date place for dogs. Not sunshine and rainbows and rivers flowing with puppy treats. This is a place for people to bring their dogs to tap into the deep instinct of most dog breeds to work by compassionate, knowledgeable, firm handed people.

I won't write a novel here or belittle people who said it wasn't for them. I will say that, after only 1 visit, I learned more from Linda, Joe, their staff and the fine people who had brought their dogs there than I have learned from videos, books and 3 sessions with our HIGHLY capable, dog trainer in 2 months. My poorly socialized, fear aggressive Dutch Shepherd rescue was treated with kindness, respect and tough love; all the things required when teaching any living thing in your care to be a productive member of society. In a controlled setting with highly trained experts guiding him, my working breed dog showed confidence, intelligence and delight in a 10 minute session. When he herded the sheep for the first time and looked at me as if to say "Look what I did Mom!" I knew that I had made the right decision; for all of us.

    Herding Delight

Ewetopia is wonderful. We've been going for years and I know it is the highlight of our dogs' week. Great exercise (mental and physical), great people. Joe and Linda are the best!
