The grounds are wonderful and spacious with a little bit of shade here and there. You can’t take the dogs inside, but there’s plenty of room on the outside. My reactive dog does well under my control and no one seemed to judge him with his muzzle. He enjoyed watching the boats from the seawall, where he surprised me by jumping up on it. Very pleasant experience that gave my pup a chance to explore

Bella enjoyed walking around the fort grounds! the sight is beautiful and the breeze is lovely.

Our pups loved exploring the grounds, even if they weren't allowed in the fort. Just make sure you ask when the cannon will fire so you can avoid being around at that time.

Walked around the outside but did are not allowed inside. Should have read other reviews closer.
- FabianFeb 22, 2023Beautiful Lawn & Outside Space! It is like a big grass field!
we loved the outside with the dogs! we would’ve wanted to go inside, however, the castle is not pet friendly. We still enjoyed the gorgeous landscape with the dogs and were able to let them walk and play with retractable long leashes at their leisure. Fabulous!
- JackieFeb 10, 2023Too bad you can’t take dogs inside
I’m not sure what is inside because we had our dog with us so we couldn’t go in. Disappointed as we really wanted to view the site.
- HannahOct 23, 2022Great walking opportunity
Lots of grassy areas for you and your pup to walk around and explore. You can’t go inside the fort with the pup, but just walking around is free and a great view nonetheless!

Dog friendly around the fort, nice walk with the pup for
free. - AnneSep 22, 2021Nice view around
Walked our three dogs around and enjoyed ourselves. Nice views. We then went and got ice cream at Castillo’s and walked around town. Nice day.
- DestinyJun 24, 2021Around the Fort
You can walk around the outside of the fort with your pups. We have walked around the fort many times with our two pups and they love it! There are some great views and it’s a nice walk for everyone.
- AshleyJul 3, 2019Beautiful Place
Dogs are unable to go into the fort but it was beautiful walking around. Definitely bring your own dog water/bowl and potty bags and be prepared to keep it with you for awhile as there were no trash receptacles anywhere to be found. Also very little shade available. Will return in the winter when the weather is more comfortable!
- SarahMay 19, 2019Great Time!
While we couldn’t go inside the fort, we could go around everything and check out the water and views. We all had a great time and it’s close to shopping and food!

No need to pay; we had a great time walking around the trails by the fort that are right next to the water. Your dog can't go in, but our pup enjoyed feeling the wind flap her ears like Dumbo. We took lots of great pictures! It sucks dogs aren't allowed inside, but we still enjoyed the fort. Plus, it is right across from the Colonial/St. George street area with lots of shopping, so we just made it part of our walking around. There were plenty of benches to sit and take in the ocean views.

Ticket is 10 bucks an adult. Dogs cannot go inside the fort.
- AlexMore than a year agoAwesome View !
I will say it was a bummer that dogs couldn't go in but honestly after looking around at the height and the crowds that rule is most definitely for their safety. The fort itself is amazing to walk around and dogs are allowed all over the grounds and plenty of excellent views and photo ops! Personally after touring all morning a late afternoon walk around the for with my dog while the crowds toured inside was just what we needed and I would definitely return again.

Dogs are not allowed to go on the tour of the fort. However, they are welcome to explore the grounds. Lots of areas to walk and explore with your dog. Beautiful.
