    Mount Bald

Great hike, about 4 miles and 2.5 h. Moderately steep, nothing crazy, wide trails. We went up the Ski Shelter Trail off Youngtown Road and then up the Bald Rock trail. You can download a map of the state park showing the parking lot location. Really nice views at the top. Highly recommend!

    Spectacular Views, Great Hike!

We took a tip from a local and hiked Bald Rock instead of Battie. It was less crowded, and the views were stunning! The ascent was challenging, but I wouldn't consider it a difficult hike.

View from the top is beautiful!

We drove to the top of the hill (Mount Battie) rather than hiked, since we were going on a tour of the Portland area lighthouses, but this was a great break from the lighthouses to see the beautiful views around us. My little pup was instantly in love with the outdoorsness of it, and she easily went up the stairs to the top of the stone tower so that we could enjoy the beautiful views 360°. The tower is fully made of stone with no holes, so she as a tiny dog was safe the entire time.

    Baxter's friend

Baxter (Labrador retriever), and I had a nice hike in Camden Hills State Park today and the view from the top of Mt. Battie is nothing less than amazing? I had read that the park is dog-friendly and although dogs certainly are allowed, they must be on a leash at all times. Learning this was a bit disappointing for my adventurous dog who is used to romping freely in the woods. The beginning of the trail was nearly impossible for a dog of his size and probably most dogs because it has 2 boards side by side with a space of about 2-3 inches in the middle making it difficult to negotiate with 4 paws. I had to let him off leash during that stretch to make it safe for him and also for myself. If your dog is used to being on-leash ALL of the time you'll be fine except for that part in the beginning of the trail where it crosses a swampy area, hence the boards.
