Not Very Dog Friendly

Flight 93 National Memorial

While it claims to be dog friendly, any of the reasons you'd go here - the historical elements like the museum or the wall of names - are blocked from dogs. The only thing they're allowed to do is walk the path, but visiting in winter after a lot of snow, the path was closed off. Definitely a must see memorial, but don't count on it being something you want to bring your pup to.

Great spot with great people

Raquette Lake Hotel & Tap Room

Brought my dog here multiple times, very friendly staff who love dogs. Without any prompting, brought out some water for her, which was really thoughtful.

Luna was welcomed, and activity was super dog friendly!

Edge of the Woods Outfitters

You park at a location that drives you in a van with the kayaks to a destination along the river. Van was dog friendly. Kayaks had a few spots dogs could sit, either in front or behind you. Dog life vests are NOT provided, but you're welcome to bring you own.

As far as kayaking goes, my pup loved it. She hates water and doesn't understand that you can't just walk between two kayaks, so she did fall in twice which caused her some anxiety, but she loved riding on the watercraft itself and watching people, birds, ducks, hawks, fish, and more.

Great dog park for agility fun

Dog Runs at Van Cortlandt Park

This dog park has agility items like a ramp, a tube, and some things to jump through. Lots of fun for my energetic pup.

I will say the dog park is quite far from the subway, so definitely plan on a hour or two to make the trip worthwhile.

Amazing, Pet-Enthusiastic Winery

Land of Nod Vineyard & Winery

These guys love dogs and have multiple on the farm. They were super awesome in getting water for the pups as well as allowing them to run around with their own dogs. The wine is also delicious and the 10-12 piece tasting was only $10!

Best kind of neighborhood bar

At the Wallace

I absolutely love this bar. Even without a dog, it's great. But any time the outdoor seating is available, it's great for bringing dogs. They provide water for dogs, which is super nice. Great way to socialize outdoors. You can also see the games on the TV from the outdoors, so you can still stay up to date on the latest soccer, football, baseball, basketball, or hockey game as desired. :D

Great little museum full of interesting facts!

The Witch House at Salem

This museum allows dogs if you carry them, which worked well for us because my dog is only 13lbs. Might not work if you have a larger dog. We did not bring my dog's bag, though that would've been nice, too. Since the museum is only about 5 rooms of stuff, it only took about 15-20 minutes to go through, which wasn't bad for carrying. And just really nice of them to accommodate so we could go at all.

View from the top is beautiful!

Camden Hills State Park

We drove to the top of the hill (Mount Battie) rather than hiked, since we were going on a tour of the Portland area lighthouses, but this was a great break from the lighthouses to see the beautiful views around us. My little pup was instantly in love with the outdoorsness of it, and she easily went up the stairs to the top of the stone tower so that we could enjoy the beautiful views 360°. The tower is fully made of stone with no holes, so she as a tiny dog was safe the entire time.

Perfect lighthouse for a dog - A nice walk involved!

Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse

Walk 7/8 of a mile down a (very stable) rock path to the light house . The walk was lovely, and great for the dog who had been in the car all day. She is small, so the rocks were kind of an adventure for her, though for humans it's almost like walking on a sidewalk. There were lots of other dogs on the path, so definitely keep your dog on leash and be aware of your surroundings.

Also note: There are no bathrooms nearby.

Adorable river lighthouse without crowds

Doubling Point Lighthouse

Very uncrowded lighthouse - easy to hit off the highway as you're exploring other parts of Maine without driving 1/2 hr or more off the highway like most other lighthouses.

Small and cute, near private property so not a very long stay. Great and easy for dogs because it isn't crowded, and has very good construction to get out to said lighthouse.

Great for dogs who are okay with loud sounds and rumbles

Casco Bay Lines

We had a great time on this boat. My pup started off really nervous, though, once the boat started. The rumbling and the whistling definitely were a bit much for her. However, she did start to calm down once we were out of the docks and moving forward. Everyone was super friendly about her being on board, and loved that she was such a friendly and gentle dog.

Allows dogs - but be cautious of sounds

Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co.

Great train ride - company was super okay with my pup going in and out of the station and on the train. The staff was also friendly, and the train ride itself was really quaint. My pup, however, got very nervous with the train sounds and the rickety train feelings underneath, so definitely make sure that this is an experience you'd want to put your dog through if they're more timid with sounds and vibrations.
