First time our dog was at a beach. He was so excited! There is also a paved walking trail around the park, which he enjoyed very much. The beach is beautiful.
- KarenFeb 1, 2024Peaceful respite in Florida Keys
It's hard to escape the sound of US 1 traffic in the Florida Keys but Sombrero Beach Park provided a quiet and peaceful place for my dog to settle his nerves on a recent trip to the Celtic Festival in Marathon. This small and scenic park kindly provides trash cans and refuse bags and lovely fenced grassy area to walk your dog. It was a place where my dog was able to calm down after a night in a hotel just feet from the loud traffic of the highway (no offense to the dog friendly hotel we stayed in). Next visit I hope I can find a dog friendly hotel further from the noises that kept my boy up and nervous all night. I'll definitely visit this park again.

If you're around Marathon, FL you absolutely do not want to miss a day at the Sombrero Beach with your dog. Great water and tons of room. Parking does get busy but there is a lot of it. We drove up from Key West and it was totally worth the drive.

We visited with our 7 month old Brittany for her first beach experience. At first she only wanted to dig in the sand but after meeting up with a golden she followed him right into the water. After her swim we were able to rinse her off in the shower before leaving. We highly recommend this beach.

We loved the beach and so did our Rhodesian! There’s a grassy park and then the beach and plenty of places to rinse off.

- KarenJan 4, 2021Awesome dog beach!
This beach is a gem! The sand is beautiful and everything is well kept. There was seaweed along the shoreline but not a problem. There were hardly any dogs there and not crowded either. Parking is very close on the street. Free parking, free beach, dogs allowed..life is good!
- ElizabethFeb 10, 2020Great beach
What a great beach. Not sure who commented full of rocks and seawood, not true! The beach was dog friendly easy to swim for dogs and people. Yes there was some seaweed and some rocks on either side of the beach making a cove. Off the beach there are multiple pavilions, nice walking path. Several showers for humans and dogs. Two indoor bathrooms which have handicap access. Plenty of free off street parking. By the by the same is white. Fun day!
- VictoriaJun 22, 2019Great Location Family Friendly
Wonderful beach, free parking along street, outside showers with short height as well to rinse dogs. Beach is at a point there’s many different places to find a spot to settle. There’s shad shelters with grills. They have benches and there’s some palm trees to find shade. We enjoyed the day here. Address listed is incorrect it’s at the end of sombrero beach drive
- LauraMay 30, 2019Excellent Beach!
Very clean, not too crowded, NO SEAWEED. Lots of pavilions to escape the sun. Shallow areas where my dog could splash comfortably. She gets nervous when she can’t touch bottom so it was great for her! The only thing I didn’t like was that the water wasn’t very clear - no waves or current, so when sand got stirred up it took a long time to settle. I ended up with a lot of sand in my bathing suit as well. But overall very nice.
- AimeeMore than a year agoGorgeous, pet friendly beach!
This beach is absolutely beautiful! It is part of a park, so pets have to stay on leash. Mufasa, our 8 month old Weimaraner, had a blast running down the beach & into the water. Lots of grass & shade when you go from the beach back up to the park. Nice bathrooms with outside showers. Shower heads at 4 heights: feet & small dog, medium dog, kids & large dogs and adults.
- Cheri and RussMore than a year agoBeautiful!
The beach and its amenities were FREE, beautiful, and uncrowded during our visit in January, 2014. Plenty of shady spots if we would've chosen to be out of the sun. We could've easily spent the entire day and plan to do that next year.
