There are several trails that you can walk in near solitude down to the lake. It takes almost 15 minutes from entrance to the lake.
You can walk the busy main path to the lake or take a more secluded route on one of the many wooded trails. It's about a 15-minute walk to the lake. This is a big park!
This huge, dog beach is very popular. And it never gets muddy because of the paver stones.
Once you've walked the 15-minute paths, two paved trails lead down the hill to the beach. Come at dusk and you'll see an awesome sunset.
You can go back time after time and never end up on the same trail.

Shawnee Mission Park

The dog-friendly Shawnee Mission Park is a multi-use, 1,600-acre park located in Kansas. It is the largest park in the county and the most visited park in the entire state of Kansas. Its 53-acre off-leash dog park, one of the largest in the country, has hiking trails, large open spaces and a 200-foot dog beach. The park is also home to a number of fantastic amenities such as a beautiful 120-acre lake that's great for boating, fishing, sail boarding, and much more. There are 11 spacious shelters, numerous picnic areas, nature trails, play areas, an archery range, a disc golf course, and trails to enjoy mountain biking and horseback riding. The park is also home to The Theatre in the Park, Shawnee Mission Park Beach, and Shawnee Mission Park Marina.
