Reviews
Visitors praise the Shawnee Mission Off Leash Dog Park as a spacious and scenic location with ample trails, a beach area, and opportunities for dogs to socialize. Some caution that the park's large size and lack of full enclosure may require extra vigilance with less-trained dogs.

- AndrewMay 3, 2022Large so enjoyed by many
This park is great. It's incredibly large with an easily accessed beach and a lot of areas to explore. The only downside is that we were there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon so it was very busy and a little chaotic with all the dogs running entirely free. So the park itself is 5 bones, next time we would just go on a less busy day.
- JApr 5, 2022Lots of fun to be had
At first glance this park looks like nothing more than a paved path to the lake, but there is a lot for your dog to explore.
Unlike other dog parks in the area there are multiple off leash hiking trails giving you the opportunity to go back and forth across the length of the park.
Also, this park is very popular which makes it a great place to socialize puppies.
- LeslieJan 26, 2022best off leash dog park!
we stopped by on our way from illinois to arizona (i used to live in lenexa which is why i knew about this dog park) and 3 years later it’s just as amazing!
we have a big black lab whose kind of shy so he didn’t engage too much with the other pups but he did throughly enjoy sniffing around the park! all of the pups and their humans were very friendly! clean park with poop bags and trash bins and big clean bathrooms which is great when you’re stopping by in the middle of traveling!

Great place to relax and let your dog socialize!
- CherylJun 27, 2021Road Trip Highlight
We discovered this dog park on a road trip with our Brittanys. We felt this was one of the best parks we have been to. It is huge park with paved trails, lots of grassy areas to run, woodsy areas to explore, and a fantastic, clean beach that both dogs and people were swimming in. They had benches along the path and waste disposal tubes that went into the ground. We will definitely return if we come back through Kansas.

We've driven coast to coast twice and this is our favorite. Huge and fabulous.
- SandySep 7, 2020BEAUTIFUL
We took our senior lab on a bucket list vacation out of state. We brought a padded utility wagon because he can't make it more than a few yards without a lot of pain and getting winded. We found paved trails, waterfall with fish, creeks, blue tailed skinks, chipmunks, gray squirrels, incredible spider webs- and more. We had space to explore and relax without other humans and dogs. It was just what we all (adults, 7 year old child and 12.5 year old disabled lab) needed. Can't recommend enough. It was magical.

By far my favorite dog spot I have been to. Driving cross country, we decided to stop. This is less of a dog park and more of off leash dog friendly short trails that lead to the lake. We spent 2 hours just hanging out and cooling off. Even with 100 degree weather, it was so worth it! I looked up the map of the whole park online and that helped us figure out exactly where the park was.
- GJun 29, 2018Huge space
This is a very huge place. If you’re dog isn’t quiet trained please be aware and keep them on a leash. Also a few of the dog owners can be very judgement about how you train you’re dogs. We took our new pups 1 ( under 6 months ) and 1 new to our family (1 year 3 months ) to the dogs beach area which is great! But we got harassed by a couple and their friends about how inhumane it was to rope train our dogs And it went on and on it and we asked them to leave us alone and to each one had their own but it Ruined our trip 😔 we literally just wanted to train our dogs not to wonder off so far as the park is HUGE and I can’t imagine losing my dogs. So just beware some owners can not mind their own business!

I am going around and visiting all the dog parks in the KC Metro area. Could have taken way more this park is huge, especially down by the beach area and some trails other than the main one. Beware this park is not fully enclosed so if you got a runner make sure you keep it on a leash or get training first. The beach area is wonderful dogs don't get muddy. Only 1 watering station at the beginning of the dog park, they should put in 1 about half way down. They have some benches down by beach to sit on but I think they need a lot more and some shade. It gets pretty toasty. Lots of dogs to play and socialize with. People were very friendly.
- JeffMore than a year agoNice place but not secure
I go to a dog park expecting to let my dog go freely well, don't do that here, you may lose your dog for good. Portions of the park are not fenced in and because it's soooo big, it's basically a park and trails you can walk your dog through, that's it. To make matters worse, there are NO signs to get there so good luck finding it, I drove around 2 times and had to ask.
- LiviaMore than a year agoAmazing
This place is huuuge. It has a massive field with tall grass when you first enter, but them you can take multiple forested trails that will lead you to a good-sized portion of the freshwater lake that the dogs can swim in. There are plenty of dogs to meet and greet and just walking the loop of the park is sure to tire you dog out.
Bring your himing boots because sometimes the trails are uneven/slippery, and if you don't want you dog to drink from the lake bring your own water bottle. There is only one water station for dogs at the entrance (and it wasn't working when I was there) and the park is spread out enough that your dog will be thirsty before you get back to your car.
This place is gorgeous. I can't reccommed it enough!
