    Great off-leash trails in Bellingham.

When we arrived we were not impressed with the fenced-dog park but quickly discovered the amazing off-leash trails through the woods. We walked about 3 miles (loop) through wooded areas. Our dog raced through the woods jumping over logs and finding little muddy spots to enjoy. It’s a very hilly trail with trail maps posted intermittently. We also took her to the lake to wash all of the mud off. Public restrooms at the dog park parking lot. Highly recommend the trails!

    Best off leash trails

Do the off leash trails at this park! My husband and I travel in a van with our two dogs, so we are always looking for a good place for the dogs to run. This was the coolest, in town, off leash hiking trails I’ve been to. You can hike a variation of the trails. My girls had a blast and were worn out! Avoid the fenced dog park. A lot of irresponsible owners not paying attention to their dogs and several dog fights.

    great but be aware

The padden park is great! A place where dogs can socialize and owners control their pups for the most part. There are owners who bring in small children and very young puppies which poses problems...please be aware that the dogs are enjoying their time and not always looking where they are going. My Shepard lab mix took out a toddler while she was playing with the other dogs...blamed on a lack of coordination by my young pup, but the kid did get hurt. I would recommend keeping kids shorter than your hip at home. This is the dogs' time to expel their energy and play, never lock your knees here!

    Off-leash trails

The off-leash trails are lovely, and there is a clean stream in which they can clean up if they get muddy on the trail.

    My dog loves this park!

I love this park! The off-leash area is pretty big and has more than enough space for my lab to run full speed all over the place. I was there in the pouring rain this morning, but there were still at least 2 other dogs there the whole time. I haven't gone on the trails yet, but that is next on my list!

    potentially dangerous

People who visit there with their dogs are of the notion that dogs should wrestle and maul each other. My dogs are normally active and friendly especially my 3 year old lab. There was a dog mob going on when we got there, one jumped on me nipping my face, another kept mounting my lab and grabbing her. I would avoid unless this is what you want. The people are more interested in each other than actually interacting with their dogs.

    Service Dog owner

We have gone here for 10 years! I have seen 2 cyotes over the years inside fensce! Only one problem whenSD was 4 months old and I had just had back surger, a women with 5 black dogs, and wouldn't let SD go! Since petrified of black dogs! Traumatised!

    Off leash trails

My 2 yr old German Short-haired pointer and I absolutely love the off leash trails at Lake Padden. They have three levels of difficulties on the trails, which are all well marked as to if they are off leash or not. We hike almost three miles up there everyday!!
