    Fort Clinch State Park

    Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, FL is pet friendly. Dogs are welcome to join their owners on all of the hiking trails, nature trails, along the park drive, and in the camping areas at the park. One of the best parts of this state park is the six-mile trail around the fort and the surrounding wooded areas. Alternatively, you and Fido may enjoy the shorter hike, the Willow Pond Hiking Trail. This hike loops around a couple of pretty fresh water ponds. Unfortunately, pooches can't go inside any of the historic buildings on the site such as the fort, and dogs are not permitted on the boardwalk or beach. The is a small fee to enter the park.       Pretty location but limited for pets

      This park is beautiful. to get to our campsite we drove three miles slowly under giant oak trees draped with Spanish moss. the canopy tour! The campsites are spacious. I had to put a tag on our vehicle stating I had a dog at my campsite (this might be a standard Florida thing).
      the bathrooms were clean and nice but was a large room with individual stalls and no pets allowed. It’s not shocking rule but something to plan for. I always stress about leaving my dog tied up alone even for a short time. I travel solo so these are things I consider when I pick a site. if you are traveling in a group this isn’t an issue.

      the biggest let down was that he was not allowed on their beach. lots of signs stating no pets allowed. I wish I could have walked along the beach or even looked at it but had to decide to stick with my buddy instead. The good news is that the main beach outside of the park is dog friendly so we drove there and played on the beach but keep in mind the beach can be pretty crowded.

      I enjoyed my trip and would return but this wasn’t the most friendly state park campsite we have traveled to.
