    Lake Griffin State Park

    Leashed dogs are welcome at Lake Griffin State Park, made up of 620-acres of marshland and trees in Fruitland Park, FL. Enjoy the two pet-friendly, sandy hiking trails that meander through roughly two miles of the park's woodland. Canoeing and kayaking are also popular activities at the park. Please keep Fido on a leash that is 6-feet in length or shorter, and be aware the dogs are not permitted in any of the buildings at the park. Trails can be very wet during the rainy summer months.       Great short little walk! (2 miles)

      took my 10yo pit lab mix Bonnie to the trail yesterday, May 30th, the path was dry, there’s a wooden raised walkway made out of railroad ties for a good part of the walk, we had to get over some anxiety to walk on only the wood and not jump into the swampy marsh below, it wasn’t super wet but Florida is home to mostly wetlands, I’m a local so I’m also extra cautious about snakes/gators sunbathing, although I did not see any on this walk, lots of butterflies and natural plants, it’s also home to one of the worlds oldest oak trees, it was discovered in 1811, there’s a vending machine, playground for those with children, cornhole, volleyball net, exercise equipment, camping, boat tours, and super friendly/helpful staff! BONUS ITS $1 OFF ALL STATE PARKS OVER THE SUMMER, I paid $3 for myself and Bonnie to spend 3 hours taking our time to look and sniff (2023, not sure if this is every year but I wouldn’t see why not)

      Short and muddy

      Not really many other places to walk in the area...sidewalks are lacking. Dirt trails here. A bit muddy and swampy at times. Shaded so that's a plus. It says two miles, but felt shorter. Wooded. Home of massive (mammoth) oak tree (second oldest in Florida and estimated at 300-500 years old). Plenty of other large oaks on the property as well. Lots for them to sniff. Water and restrooms on site. Nice peaceful spot.

      Nice shady trail

      great short trail with lots of shade and things for your dog to sniff. Dogs must be leased and there are trash cans at the trail head for dog waste.

      Fun

      I went with my pit lab mix in winter and she had a fun time. I would recommend if you have a smaller dog that you might have to carry them at certain points due to some of the areas being uneven. Other than that plenty of space and covered. We would definitely go again.
