Fontainebleau State Park is dog-friendly. Formerly the location of a sugar plantation in the mid-19th century, this 2,800-acre park can be found on the pretty shore of Lake Pontchartrain. There are a couple of trails dotted around the park that allow dogs to join their owners on a leash under six feet, including a 4.8-mile hiking trail and a nature trail that's just over a mile long, with signs to help you identify the different plants and trees. There are over 400 different species of birds and other animals that call the park their home. The nature trail is bordered on three sides by Lake Pontchartrain, Bayou Cane, and Bayou Castine. Fontainebleau State Park is open Sunday through Thursday from 6am to 9pm and Friday to Saturday from 6am to 10pm.
