Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve

Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve is a dog-friendly area in Escondido, CA. Your pooch is welcome to join you on the 11 miles of trails that wind around the public area. Along the way, you can stop off at one of the picturesque picnic spots for a bite to eat and enjoy a scenic mountain view. Trees in the park include oak riparian, oak woodland, coastal sage scrub, and chaparral. There are lots of other animals that call the park their home, maybe you'll spot them whilst exploring with your pooch. California leash law is enforced and dogs must remain on leash at all times on the “Way Up” Trail and Lower Trails. Monday through Friday dogs under effective voice command are permitted off leash at the top of the “Way Up” Trail (only beyond the designated marker). On Saturday, Sunday, and holidays dogs are required to remain on leash at all times throughout the Reserve. Additionally, dogs must remain on leash in parking lots, picnic areas, overlooks, or any time they become a nuisance to people, property, and wild or domestic animals. Visit Website

Somewhat remote, great hike for dogs!

If the first parking lot is full, there is another one slightly less well marked but just up the road. That's where we parked and then jumped on the trail with BboBbo. The self-guided botanical was an awesome introduction to the Chaparral and Riparian landscape. Be warned it is pretty exposed so make sure to bring water for your pup and sunscreen for yourself. Or at least make sure to give your dog a chance to cooldown in the stream before and after the hike.

Such A Fun Hike With My Pooch🐕😊

can’t wait to go back. there are areas farther back that you can let your dog off leash but my pup is not ready for that. He had a blast in the stream and the views are just amazing

    Fantastic Hike With Dogs

Great hike with dogs. Unfortunately they must remain on leash tho. Great little creek for them to dip in. Absolutely beautiful area. Highly recommend!
