Crabtree Falls

Bring Fido to the pet-friendly and majestic Crabtree Falls, which is the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, and is located in Montebello, VA. This waterfall features a series of five major cascades and a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 feet. The first overlook is just a few hundred feet from the upper parking lot along a gentle, paved trail, making it an excellent stopover for travelers of all ages and abilities. The more adventuresome hiker may continue along the 2.5-mile Crabtree Falls Trail to four other overlooks offering spectacular views of the falls and the Tye River Valley. Leashed dogs are welcome. Rocky but great!

Took my dogs on a weekday morning so it was pretty empty. I was able to get cute pics of them by the falls and on the trail. The hike can be very rocky so I recommend good hiking boots.
Also bring $3 for the park fee.

    Great Hike for Active Pups!

It’s definitely a great trail for Active pups and their owners! I do strongly recommend that you and your pup are experienced in these styles of trails though. 1.7miles up the mountain and it’s lots of stairs with little stopping room. You should keep your pup on a leash because there are lots of blind corners where you won’t see anyone till you round it. Great Views though! Not as busy on weekdays

    Great Trip With Fido

Lots of dogs on this trail. We keep ours on the leash and almost all did the same. Trail is somewhat busy so was better for all that way. Bring lots of water and stay on the trail. It is steep - you are going to the top of the summit. Gorgeous view and resting area at the top on rocks by the water (or in if you choose!) and easier to go back down. Took an hour to too much less down. Enjoy! Gave 4 because Fido really can’t run too much on his own.

    Great workout

The views were spectacular. The first stop was a fairly easy walk. The rest was pretty steep. At check-in, though, be prepared for a $3.00 per person use fee. Worth visiting.

    Overall

Love the hike as do my pups. It is usually an all day ordeal so pack plenty of water and wear comfy shoes. DO NOT go off of the path. There have been MANY deaths becaues people don't follow the rules and climb on the waterfall itself. Play it smart.

Uphill hike to many separate falls - need camera and lots of time. Great place, beautiful falls, need to be careful. You will love it! NEED WATER IN THE STREAM!

    Crabtree Falls

A nice little day hike but really nothing special. Unfortunately when we got there we discovered that ALL dogs had to be on leash. Would have been nice to know that before driving over 2 hours to get there.
