I was surprised to see the bad reviews, seems more of user errors than anything. My dog loves this park, she is able to play when she wants and just hand out by herself as well. I love the variety of dogs as mine is still a pup and is getting used to the big dogs. The owners are very friendly and I haven't ran into anyone who does not know how to take care of their dog.
Quick tip, don't sit in any of the plastic chairs or the edges of the benches.

I'm surprised at the negative reviews of this park. It isn't super large, so the bigger dog side can get a bit smelly on hot humid days, especially after a rainy day, but overall it's a nice, clean park. I guess I probably wouldn't go on a muddy day. There isn't a lot to be done when you have so many trees; grass won't grow, and though they mulch regularly, there are A LOT of big dogs running around so there is natural wear and tear on the ground. Also to say there are no views is kind of silly as it is located ON Lake of the Isles and there are really nice views of the lake. People are really friendly, and though dogs act like dogs from time to time, overall its a great energy and friendly place for both dog and human. I have seen more issues with people not understanding dog play than anything else. My one complaint would be that the tables and benches are in poor shape and gaps in the wood on the benches has led to a few injuries for the smaller dogs. Also there are many people who use the park without purchasing permits and just take off when the Park Police stop in to check on permits. Paying the nominal fee helps the city keep the park nice, so get your permits folks!

We have a 55lb shepherd mix that we used to bring to this park. We've stopped going because of many reasons, but mostly because it's so filthy. Our dog got an eye infection every year, especially in the springtime when the tiny park is a festering mud pit. Because of the location there are a ton of poorly trained, snappy apartment dogs and their equally awful owners. Way too small, and urine soaked. This park makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

I travel with 2 large dogs. This park was easy to find and altho I found the people to be aloof, I don't care. I go for my dogs and they have plenty of room to run and other dogs to play with. There have been a couple of aggressive dogs but the owner have always taken them out. Not a bad place at all!!
- JanetMore than a year agoNot safe
Snobby people. Unruly dogs that the owners don't pay attention to. Many fights. Poop all over.
- CeCeMore than a year agoNot scenic but a great place for dogs
From a human perspective, Lake of the Isles dog park is not great: no views, no water, no grass (mulch underfoot). From a dog's perspective, though, it's great: enough room to run full out, lots of other dogs, dozens of tennis balls and sticks, and friendly people. Bring water for the communal water dishes.

I live a few blocks from this dog park. I am not a dog owner, nor am I particularly partial to dogs. That being said, this dog park, located at the south end of Lake of the Isles, seems to be busy every day from early morning to late at night. The park is lighted and fenced. There is a fence between the big dog area and the little dog area-apparently for the benefit of the big dogs. There is on street parking on Lake of the Isles Parkway and the dog park is across the parkway from separated bike and walking paths that go around the lake and that connect to adjacent lakes. I gave it a "4 Bones" rating because it's always busy with plenty of dogs cavorting around, not bothering non-dog lovers.
