    4 paws up!

Was visiting family from out of town and wanted to give my dog a place to run after a long car ride and neutral place to meet another dog so we checked it out. It was very easy to park there and multiple gates clearly marked for different areas (big dog, small dog, special needs, pond). Lots of water bowls, poop bags, towels and balls there if you forget yours! Just remember to bring cash for the box as not able to give change. Ended up going back next 2 days as my pup enjoyed it so much. All the owners were really nice and all looked out for each others dogs.

    Worth the Drive

My family and I decided to take a day trip to Clinton specifically for this dog park (and the surrounding park and trails) and it was well worth the drive! The park is huge with ample room for all the dogs to run and play. The small lake for the dogs to play in was amazing for my border collie who is a water lover. We will definitely be back to this park!

    Wonderful, Nicely Laid Out

I visit the Clinton area several times a year. My dog always has lots of energy, especially after sleeping in the car for a few hours. Earlier this summer I looked for dog park options and found this one. I emailed and received very helpful information. Unfortunately my big city brain could not understand the simple, honor system, method used for daily passes. So last time we were in town we did not visit the park. However, after another email the simple procedure was made clear to me (sorry I was so dense! lol). This time I was able to pay for the single day pass and my whippet mix absolutely loved the running room. He is only 23 pounds and usually goes in the small dog area at our home park, but since we were the only ones around we went into the big dog area. It was whippet running room heaven (I think we'll stop in before leaving for home). There is plenty of maintained grass area with shade trees. The wooded areas with walking paths are cooler in warm weather.

There were a couple of structures which kinda stumped me. One is a geodesic dome with wire mesh attached to the dome bars. The curious thing is there are small young trees and overgrowth. Not sure what that was used for. It has a double door entry. A few of the dome areas at the "front", where the double door is, look like they were removed. There is also a rectangular structure with wire mesh sides and a fiberglass top. There is a drain in the floor but it didn't seem to be draining. There was standing water in that structure. I'm going to guess it is/was used for raptors in need of rehab. But I didn't see any signs to that effect.

While I don't have a senior dog right now, I like the thought that went into an area that big or small dogs that just don't move so quickly can be safe from exuberant young bucks.

For the pooper scooper owner there are ample poop bags and disposal containers placed all over the area. There is no reason not to pick up your dogs poop (unless you just don't see them because the area is so darn big). In that case, just pick up any poop you come across (I only saw one unpicked small pile). The dog park is well cared for! I will certainly visit again.

For the visitor to the area, once you are done at the dog park a drive around the larger parks perimeter road is well worth the time spent. There are a couple of "scenic overlooks" that are absolutely stunning. But if you get nervous/squeamish at blind curves/turns it may not be the drive for you. There are some spots where you have to be looking at the road ahead to know which way you will have to go when you get to the point that you can't see the road before you. Kinda makes it hard to gawk at the beautiful scenery and drive. I expect that is why there are the overlooks!

    Perfect Play

We haven't found a park that quite matches Marvin in North Carolina, but this one does! May by only 9 acres, but it's got plenty of shade, water available, and a pond to run and splash! Awesome!

    Prairie Pastures Dog Park

Callie and I have been going to Prairie Pastures since before they opened back in 2007. And we've put alot of hours in helping the park to become the beautiful place that it is today. With over 8 acres there is something for everyone. Two separate big dog areas (one with a pond), a small dog area and a senior area. Plenty of grass and trees. Also benches and shelter. Memberships available. Day passes are $3 for the first dog and $1 for each additional dog. Open daily - 8am til dusk. Entrance to the dog park is located inside of Eagle Point Park, across from the south playground. Prairie Pastures is a branch of the Soaring Eagle Nature Center; a non-profit organization that is supported entirely thru donations and volunteers.
