Alder Lane Beach Access in South Carolina.
Just returned from our vacation in Hilton Head. Dogs are free to be off leash all day at this time of year (March 2011). Our girls enjoyed the sunrise walks every morning.
We love playing on the beach

Alder Lane Beach Access in South Carolina.

Description

Alder Lane Beach is a great, quiet getaway from the typical beach scene since its crowd size is much smaller than that of the surrounding area beaches. It's located off of South Forest Beach drive, next to the Marriott Grande Ocean Resort, and amenities include Beach Matting, Restrooms, Outdoor Showers, 22 Metered Parking Spaces, and Seasonal Lifeguards. Animals are permitted on the beach during the official beach season, April 1st through September 30th before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m, or anytime in the off season. They must be on a leash or under positive voice control at all times. Owner's are also required to remove and properly dispose of the animal's excrement as well.

    Our dog loves this beach!

In March dogs can run and play with no leash. Our dog runs, chases balls, splashes in the water and has a blast. It is not crowded and everyone we meet is dog friendly.

Beautiful beach with easy access and open space for dogs off leash

Although we chose a fairly chilly day, we thoroughly enjoyed beautiful Hilton head and this beach in particular. We parked in the free parking at the beginning of the road, about a 14 minute walk and strolled to the entrance over by the Marriott resort. The walk was nice but it is a bike path so you do have to give away a lot to bicycles. There are plastic walkways down to the beach which make getting across the soft sand super easy and the rest of the sand is hard and compacted. Because it was off-season, the dogs were allowed off leash and they ran and played to their hearts content. Be sure to pay attention to the special directions on finding the beach because it is a bit tricky and also to the hours and dates that the dogs can be on the beach

    Timing is Everything

October to March is OFF season, and the perfect time to visit. “Under positive voice control” is easy for our dobies, so they got to run and swim and have a grand time with a dozen other dogs during our day here. Parking lot is just north of Alder Lane entry! Bring quarters. And bring a reusable bottle bc there is a water fountain and bathrooms on the boardwalk to the beach!

    very nice!

The beach was a little crowded, but a short walk down and I had plenty of room to play frisbee with my dog. I will definitely be going back! Loved it!

    Great beaches for dogs!

There are time restrictions for dogs in the summer due to crowds and usually it's too hot for dogs on the beach in the summer anyway. There are tons of places to take your dog in Hilton Head. As I do before going anywhere with your dog...research first!

    Not dog friendly

This beach follows the same regulations as all Hilton Head beaches. No dogs between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm during the summer. Pretty much a bummer since we had made a special trip with our dog because of the information that previously appeared on this website. :(

    Same as other HH beaches...

Just returned from HH yesterday. I took my two dogs with me and did take them to Alder Lane Beach, but they were not allowed from 10 a. to 5 p. on the beach, which is the same policy for all HH beaches. Actually, Coligny Beach was better--dogs were allowed before 10 a. and after 5 p., and parking was free. (You have to pay at Alder Lane.)
