Nose Hill Park

This is the largest natural area in Calgary! There are areas where your dog must be on leash, but overall, your dog is free to run in the grass. When you get deep into the park, the city disappears and it feels like you are in the true prairies. A great place to relax and unwind in Calgary. Visit Website

    Busy, but lots of space

Massive area, with large main paths as well as tons of little rabbit trails for you to wind through. Your dog should have good recall here as it’s pretty wide open and we often passed people on bikes, runners, and groups of other dogs. Our dog is not always good meeting new dogs so it was perfect, because if someone was coming we could just hit off onto a side path. Not all of it is off leash but plenty of space for dogs to run and wind through paths. Garbage cans are primarily at the entrances so prepare to carry doggy bags with you.

    Very Active Park

This is one of the most popular off-leash dog parks in north Calgary. If you are visiting from out of town please be aware that this is a very active and busy park. Many local residents use the park for mountain biking, hiking and kiting. Many local dog lovers enjoy the park and you will find lots of furry friends for socialization. Cautionary note: You'll find wildlife in pretty much every corner of the park. From coyotes to deer to jack-rabbits to porcupines you can find a vast amount of wildlife which can distract your bet. We own a dog walking and pet sitting business called Urbanpet.Life and have bumped into out-of-towners, while using the park, that were unaware of some of the dynamics of the park. Stick to the trails, walk in groups (or packs) and you'll find the park a fun time to spend some time with your pet. The park is relatively clean with access into the park via several parking lots around its perimeter.

    Not Safe for Dogs

We used to take our dogs here until the found a porcupine which ended with a trip to the emergency vet clinic and a $500 vet bill. According to the clinic, they treat dogs with porcupine quills on a regular basis, all from walks in this park. Beautiful park, but not safe for dogs!

    A treasure for visitors

This 1,600-acre park was nearly spoiled by developers years ago, but now is preserved with a splendid view of Calgary's skyline. Stick to the trails. Watch out for mountain bikers, coyotes (one of my dogs was jumped by one) and deer (my other dog was temporarily lost chasing one). After and hour r two here, your dogs will sleep well.
