Marion County Trail (MCTRAIL)

The Marion County Trail (MCTRAIL) is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Fairmont! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Marion County Trail (MCTRAIL). Nice and cool for dogs and humans
I walk this with my daughter and her GSD (before I moved and became Sullys human) and it is a very nice trail. Flat for the most part, so it is easy going.. only draw back is the tunnel can have broken glass from vandals so watch the pups step closely in there.. otherwise it would have been 5/5

I walk this trail starting at the tunnel end and my dog always enjoys it. Dog waste stations are at both trailheads. Great for a short walk or a long hike.

MCTrail is MCAwesome
This trail is perfect for dog walking- I have a very well-behaved, mild-mannered 110lb labrador who loves this trail! The crushed-stone/paved path was perfect- and the grade is so subtle, it is easy going. Lots of shade so no overheating, and everyone we met was following the rules (e.g. dogs on leash)! We did not go all the way into Fairmont, did an out-and-back shorter route, but definitely an awesome trail!
