- RebeccaSep 7, 2024So much to see!
This is a great trip to take with a dog. If you take your time looking at all the markers and statues in the park, and then visit one of several dog friendly restaurants this activity will take an entire day. Many of the stores downtown had water bowls set out. A few allowed our pup inside and had treats on hand. He had as good a time as we did!
- ToriOct 16, 2023Great history spot to bring the pups
We did the auto tour with our pups which worked perfectly because we got to go at our own pace and walk around with the pups at each stop. It is a great way to have your fur family added in the trip. I will say it is a lot of in and out of the car but we'll worth it and the only spots they can't go in is the building and cemetery.
- KathySep 10, 2023Amazing place to visit
The history, education, statues and Auto Tour were excellent. Download the NPS app for the Auto Tour. We learned a lot! Lots of space for you to walk with your dog.

While the museum and visitor’s center are off-limits to pups the auto tour was great! We picked up a map from the visitors center and used the NPS app for audio clips. There was parking at the stops along the way so we could get out with the doggies and explore.
- AlyssaJun 12, 2022Nice historical walk
GNMP has really nice trails that are denoted on a large map near the Visitor’s Center. Dogs loved it!
- MarissaOct 4, 2021Loved Walking with our Pup
A caravan-style tour of the site was perfect because our dog rode alone with us. The only place he wasn’t allowed was the visitors center (no buildings) and the National Cemetery. But there was so much to walk and see, including Little Round Top!
- EmilyJul 16, 2021Great for a Day with a Dog
Make sure you arrive at the Visitor Center early (like an hour or so before they open!) to get great, crowd-free photos with the beautiful sign and the statue of Abe. There are maps up for grabs without going inside which is really convenient. The trails that branch off the Visitor Center are lovely and we made a really long loop. Getting an early start meant enjoying a lot of great areas with little to no crowds even on a holiday weekend.
Pretty much all the monuments are dog-friendly, just no cemeteries and nothing indoors. When you are done for the day do a tick check- we found one on our pup even though he is up-to-date on his preventions.
- NicholasApr 10, 2021Full of history
From what we could tell there was 2 dog friendly trails. We hiked before visitors center open so there may be more options available. Get there early it fills up quickly after nine am.
- TheresaMay 15, 2018Self-guided audio car tour
Dogs aren't allowed in the visitor center, but we got out of the hot car and waited in the shade of the bookstore entrance side while we took turns inside. You'd have to ask if they're allowed at the outdoor patio with umbrella-covered tables outside the saloon. This picture was taken at the separate bathroom rest stop on the self-guided, car audio tour.
- BreaMore than a year agoLots of choices
Lots of different kinds of places for walks. We had a pleasant little hike on Culp's Hill.
- CourtneyMore than a year agoHistorical Adventure!
This was a great trip! You can take your dog along! Just no cemeteries or inside the buildings. Everyone was very sweet to my dog. There were a lot of people on Memorial Day so I was glad that my dog handled crowds of hands petting him so well. Definitely NOT a place for unfriendly dogs.
- BeckyMore than a year agoWonderful sight seeing
I took my Shepherd (Canine Good Citizen and Therapy certified) to the parks and took some of the most gorgeous pictures, to date, of him. People were friendly and receptive towards his friendly attitude. The park is NOT a good place to take an unsocialized dog because people naturally approach you and want to pet your dog. GREAT hiking, wonderful trails.
