We had such a great time here. People and dogs were friendly. Paid parking close to entrance. Lovely garden and water for dogs at entrance. Most owners seem to pick up after their dogs.
- ErinJan 8, 2023Puppy’s first beach trip
This was puppy’s first trip to the beach. Knowing that, we didn’t set high expectations. We knew we weren’t ready for off the leash frolicking and fetch with lots of other dogs. Our pup is fetch obsessed, but recall isn’t great yet and we didn’t want her to be completely overwhelmed. We opted to walk south of the dog beach where dogs are allowed on leash. It was a perfect first trip. We were able to see the actual dog beach area, but get introduced to the beach in a slower style. It was exciting and everything was new…seaweed, seagulls, sand, shells, all.so.fascinating! Street parking was easy in the mid afternoon.
- BJun 3, 2022Favorite spot
Favorite dog spot in Socal thusfar. Largest walking area off leash. Most parking is a small fee to park. May have to walk a bit to get there. No shade. Water fountain and portable restroom on site. Note off leash authorization changes based on time of year and time of day. Can be confusing, but well worth it.
- Fetch The SunMar 16, 2022Surfs Up Pup!
Great spot for dogs to play and get fresh air. There’s a huge sand beach to run on and dig up, and lots of ocean to play in. Dog surfing is a common sight too!
Depending on the time and the season, there are some leash laws here, but it is very loosely enforced. Expect lots of pups off leash.
Parking could get congested in the summer months, but it’s not too bad in the off-season. Mostly metered parking along the HWY 101, but you can find some free parking if you're willing to walk a little ways. - MelanieJun 14, 2021Great place
Everyone we met was super nice and a normal dog owner. They get you are at a dog beach and if you don’t know what that means “nough said.” Our pup is a year old and she has a blast. All the dogs, that I could see, were having a good time and enjoying being off leash. I don’t know if it is off leash year round but if anyone knows please leave a comment.

We love, love, love going to this beach with our dog! It's a beautiful, clean beach for humans to enjoy sunbathing and swimming, and it's perfect for dogs. I've found dog owners here to be very responsible.

- MeganJan 14, 2020Huge area!!
This place is great for dogs who like to be socialized. Always a bunch of dogs, check for off the leash season.
- SharonAug 3, 2019Nice Beach!
We brought Joey here knowing that she would have to stay on leash so I can’t count that against this place. The beach was clean. There is ample paid parking. We had fun digging in the sand and meeting other awesome dogs.

I went there with my 3 children and my 11 month old black lab, that is sweet and well behaved. My dog was on leash but I walked around to socialize with other dogs, and was verbally threatened by a dog owner for my puppy barely jumping on her. Her and her husband were so rude and repeatedly threatened me and my kids if we didn’t leave. My dog was not aggressive AT ALL! I would expect more from dog owners, especially in Del Mar. Beware of this kind of harassment. The first time I went I didn’t have any issues when off leash was allowed. If you don’t like dogs, why are you at dog beach!?
- GillianJun 30, 2019Don’t waste your time during summer
My husband and I went to this beach several times last year. We went during the off season and summer and never once had any problems. Not sure if new rules were posted or if it was because no one enforced it in the past But now you have to keep the dogs leashed from June 15-labor day. So really there is no point of it being a dog beach. Not to mention there is always tons of people fishing and all they have is a port a potty.
- TeresaJun 22, 2019Great beach!!!
Loved this beach, lots of parki.g close by and not too crowded even on a Saturday in the Summer.

Dogs must remain on leash during summer months. No public restrooms on beach. Very disappointing.

Very clean. There were a lot of dogs running around and everyone was very good with their dogs and one another. Parking was a bit crazy, but not overwhelming since we got there early.

It's a lovely place, but it's closed to off-leash dogs during the warmest months of the year!! What's the point then?!

The beach was clean, the people were nice, all the dogs were happy, the water was warm and clean!! What a wonderful place!! I recommend this dog beach to everyone!! - BrandonMore than a year agoGreat dog beach
Great beach! My dogs loved it! The beach was very clean. There are rocks for the dogs to crawl on and you can follow the beach North and up the waterway for gentle waters. We had to pay for parking; it was about $3/hr. - JodieMore than a year agomy dogs loved it!!
The beach was full of dogs today and it was so fun. I didn't see any dog poop but the closest station with bags is closer to the volleyball courts. There is only porta pottys but the cold probably won't have to staying there long enough to be using it.
- PaulinaMore than a year agogood outing
Most the dogs were on the north side of the lagoon which is inaccessible via 29th street at high tide. Enter the north side of the beach off of 101.
- CarrieMore than a year agoFun times
We love this dog beach! The off leash times are great and the dogs and pet parents are fun! The only down sides are: need to bring your own baggies and others don't tend to clean up after their dogs. This allows other dogs to eat fecal matter which can cause illness! Please pick up after your pets. Also bring your own water there is only port-a-potties.
