    Lovely!

The park is wonderful. The trails are easy to walk and full of nature—watch out for snakes and lizards! Mako loved walking through the woods, looking at (and trying to chase) the geese by the lake, and playing in the dog park! The dog park itself is $4 to entire (on top of $6 park admission) and they need a copy of vaccination records which can be a hassle, but there was a picnic shelter there, kiddie pools, and lots of space for dogs to run. Definitely recommend!

    Great Park!

I love bringing Sunny to this park for walks. Soon she will be spayed and we can start utilizing the dog park as well. I personally love the fact that dogs will be required to show vaccination records before getting access to the dog park. I've been bummed I haven't been able to take her in yet, but also glad that I know she'll be safe once I can. Sunny has already enjoyed taking a dip in the pond and loves hanging out in the park and meeting new friends. This is a great well-maintained park.

    Worth It!

Some of these reviews are a few years old. As of Spring 2019, the dog park is still shaded, popular, does have lots of regulars that have been coming for more than 10 years. Rangers are very attentive when asked, but do not hover. Rangers maintain the area well. The office hours are 9-5 seven days per week. And we love that you have to register to access. Dogs are expensive. Vet's are expensive. This park is close to 2 interstates, and you don't know what might come off the road traveling through. The small fee & registration with all the shot records keeps everyone safe in multiple ways. SC State Parks DO NOT RECEIVE TAXES to operate. All money collected at the park, is spent on this park! Oh, almost forgot. If you need a walk, put the leash back on the dog and explore the over 12 miles of shaded trails within the rest of the park. Great place!

    5 stars

It's funny to hear about the evil cliques in the dog park. Like anywhere else there are people, like me, who spend time in the dog park daily. A group of us meet every afternoon and there is a larger group in the morning. We embrace new members end try to help them and their dog settle in to the scene. Point out where the poop bags are kept, water, etc. We don't want to exclude anyone. Of course there are posted rules, that each person agrees to abide by when paying for their dogs numbered tag and key to get in the dog park. Occasionally people will bring food and can't understand why all the dogs are pestering them. That is why food is not allowed. $25 a year is a bargain, even if you visit a half dozen times.
Yes there is no security here. I have visited dog parks in several states and none have security other than dog owners. If there is an issue of a vicious dog (or person) a call will get a ranger here in short order. Can't recall the last such occasion. Rangers do come by occasionally to refill the poop bag receptacles and cut grass, remove branches etc. This is the only dogpark in the state park system. We feel pretty lucky to have a system that guarantees the dogs in the park are current on shots and healthy. Maybe some people think they shouldn't have to pay a dog park fee. But that fee pays for maintaining the park, fencing, locks, benches, tables, etc.

    not for travelers

This park is not for anyone traveling through. The first part I have ever been to that is pay to play end it itemizes your part experience. If you live in the area they might be nicer to you but for us and we got the feeling we were unwelcome

    Worth the Drive

I drive from West Columbia to this Dog Park. My dog loves playing with the other dogs, the friendly so called clique that has welcomed me and been a great social time for me as well as my dog. The dog park is kept clean and I don't mind the fact that they do charge (much lower than anything close to me in West Columbia) and that they confirm that all of the dogs are up to date with vaccines. Great park, great staff, great company. Worth the drive.

    Dog Cliques

We frequent the park! Lots of space for the dogs to run around. Toys available. Water bowls and pools available to cool off in. However, the people are very set in their ways and form cliques. Be careful not to let that alter your experience.

    Beautiful Park

Brought My Kobe to this Park for a walk. There was a lake that your dog can go in. There is a hiking trail with shallow swimming springs and holes for the dogs to get wet especially on hot summer days. Definitely recommend this park. We only paid $4 for my husband and I to enter.

    best park in cola

I see there are a lot of complaints about this park, but as a resident of columbia this is by far the best one! Yes there is a fee but it also makes sure the dogs are fixed and updated on shots. I feel better knowing that my dog is held to the same standards as other dogs. The dog park is big enough for the dogs to run around, sit in the shade, take a nap in the sun, or swim in the dog pools. Again, best dog park in the area!!

Post Your Office Hours More Clearly

The office is only open from 11a-12p and 4p-5p so you only have a 1hr window to get a doggie day pass for the inclosed area, we got there at 1pm. Ended up walking the shaded trails but really bummed we didn't get to go in the dog park.

    Bahhh

Great Park to run/walk/bike around. I have dogs. I want to let them run.... They allow limited space for the dogs and on top of that you have to pay a fee. It's enough we pay taxes, yet they want more money. Boo!

    Limited

The Park is beautiful and well maintained. Pet friendly it is limited. Here you have a huge "Pond" and yet you cannot use it! No wading, swimming, dogs.... not even a canoe.
