Reviews
Visitors generally have a very positive experience at Asilomar State Beach, praising its dog-friendly atmosphere and scenic coastal trails. They note that while dogs are officially required to be leashed, this rule is often not enforced, and many dogs are allowed to run off-leash, though caution is advised as some owners may be unreceptive to this.

Moved to the area about 2 years ago and walk my dog here all the time. Most of the time I walk him off-leash and have never had a problem. It's best to keep them on-leash when getting out of the car as you're on a busy street. I usually let him off leash once we get closer to the water. Everyone I've run into has been super friendly and never had issues with other dogs. This is Milo's happy place!

We love Pacific Grove so for our dogs first beach outing we took them to Asilomar Beach. They love every minute of hanging out at Asilomar on the different beach areas and the nice hiking trail. While it is true we have come across some dogs off leash, it is not that many and they never bother us or our dogs. Everyone on the beach has been very nice and pleasant to us. The beach is clean and everyone cleans up after their dogs.

This is a GREAT beach to walk your dog. Please note this Long Beach has two sections. Northern end is Asilomar (state parks) but the southern part (after the river outflow) of the beach is Pebble Beach property. Dogs are allowed off leash on south end- I have watched people get ticketed if they have dogs off-leash on the north end - my dog loves to run off leash with others at this beach but I put the leash on when I get into Asilomar side.
FYI this is from the Asilomar website: “OF NOTE: The southern 2/3rds of the Asilomar Beach is Pebble Beach Property and is not patrolled or maintained by CA State Parks. Please contact Pebble Beach Resorts for all inquiries related to this section of the beach.”

I brought my rescued dogs to this beach specifically because they need to be on leash and I dont want dogs coming up to them. There were several dogs running off leash and when a lady with her 2 Rhodesian Ridge-backs came onto the beach her dogs ran directly for mine. I asked her to put her dogs on leash. She got in my space and I asked her to get back and she said no. She said "You dont live here do you?" Another lady on the beach was acting like what was the problem, her dog off leash as well. I called the Pacific Grove Police to ask if the dogs are supposed to be on leash. They said it was Monterrey County's jurisdiction and they dont enforce the laws. Well when the day comes there is a dog fight on the beach, or someone gets bit, the county will get sued... People who break laws just because the police are too busy to enforce them, are no better than any criminal. Selfish, stupid and inconsiderate to other dogs who are not as experienced. Give rescued dogs a break.

A nice but busy beach full of children on a school trip.
Theydon loved the sand and it is a lovely stretch of coastline. Dogs need to be kept on leash at all times

Very nice beach for leashed dogs. We visited in the evening and were greeted by 2 VERY bold coyotes. They came within 20’ and 3 people with 2 larger (50lbs & 75lbs) dogs did not scare them off. I’m afraid what would’ve happened if we had smaller or unleashed dogs.

It's a wonderful beach. My puppy is obsessed with fetching the ball in the waves. So I was throwing the ball with and another girl was doing the same with hers. We were both ticketed..
So it's a great beach but keep your dog on the the leash or be ticketed.. - MoriahMore than a year agogreat local beach!
It says leash only, but as a previous resident of the area for 2 years, I promise you that you won't find one dog on leash. The large sand stretch of beach is a great place to let your dog run off leash & play with others. Once your done, there a so many beach side trails to take the dog on for a nice walk. It's my absolute favorite place in all of monterey!
