Town of Duck Dogs on Beach Policy Dogs are allowed on the beaches of Duck, NC unleashed, but as a matter of public safety and courtesy, they should be under the watchful eye and contact of their owner. Dogs are required to be vaccinated for rabies, collared with proper identification at all times, and controlled by a leash (10 feet or less) or restraint throughout Town including at the park, boardwalk, and Duck Trail. Cape Hatteras National Seashore Take your four-legged companion for a splash! The pet-friendly Cape Hatteras National Seashore in Manteo allows leashed dogs on all beach areas except those designated as swimming beaches. Be sure to keep Fido on a leash no longer than six feet, as this shore is not off leash. Leashed dogs are also allowed on the grounds surrounding the Bodie Island Lighthouse, and on the boardwalk and nature trail. Pets are not permitted inside any buildings. See Details

Kitty Hawk Beach Dogs are permitted on public beaches. From the Friday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. dogs must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet. At all other times during the year, dogs must be restrained on a leash retractable to 12 feet. Dogs may be taken off the leash only if they will not disturb other people on the beach. Unleashed dogs must be controlled by the handler, who must remain within 30 feet of the dog at all times. A leash must be with owner/handler at all times. See Details
Jockey's Ridge State Park Jockey's Ridge State Park welcomes leashed dogs. There are trails that will take you into multiple environments including wetlands, sandy beaches, and grassy dunes.

Note: Jockey's Ridge State Park also allows dogs on the sand dunes however, sand spurs are present (ouch!). The sand can also reach temperatures that are 30 degrees higher than the air temperature. Please make sure paws are protected and water is always available during hotter months.
