Makamah Nature Preserve
Originally called Crab Meadow Park East Watershed, the Makamah Nature Preserve contains dry and wet woodlands, as well as marsh. The preserve is available for hiking, bird watching, dog walking (on leash). It has been reported that 94 species of birds have been recorded in and around the property and that the park is prime habitat for owls and woodpeckers. The park contains heavily wooded hills with one rising to 60 feet in its center and others rising to 100 feet.

Fido is only allowed in the lower vineyard seating areas and must be cleaned up after and on a short leash. Dogs are allowed in undeveloped areas only of Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY. Offering one of the most stunning views of the Long Island Sound with Connecticut in the distance, the park has a wide range of topography that sustains a variety of flora and fauna. Dogs must be leashed. Pets are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools and spray-grounds or guarded beaches. Sunken Meadow State Park is open daily.

Robinson Duck Farm Dog Run Area is located in Brookhaven, NY. The park covers 2.6 acres and is surrounded by a 4-ft fence of high wooden posts with turkey wire for your pup to run. As a "natural borders" dog park, the area will not have the usual amenities associated with more traditional fenced dog parks. Dog owners are expected to bring their own waste disposal bags and water.

Shrine of Our Lady of the Island
Leashed dogs are permitted on the pet-friendly grounds of Shrine of Our Lady of the Island in Manorville, NY. With the exception of Mondays, Mass commences every day at 11.30am and is held outdoors if the weather permits. You and Fido can enjoy picnic areas on the beautiful grounds which surround the shrine. Cathedral Pines County Park is a 320 acre site situated along the headwaters of the Carmans River. Facilities include campsites for individuals, youth group camping and club camping (10 or more units) and family camping, including 10 sites with water and electric hookups. Adjacent to Cathedral Pines Park is Prosser Pines Nature Preserve, which features a majestic stand of white pines planted in 1812. Prosser Pines is a popular site for hikers and photographers.

All aboard a pet-friendly vessel from Fire Island Ferries in Bay Shore, NY. Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on board and on Fire Island, the large center island of the barrier islands south of Long Island. Pets are not permitted within the Fire Island Wilderness or on Fire Island National Seashore's ocean beaches (Lighthouse, Sailors Haven, Watch Hill, Talisman, and Wilderness) from March 15 through Labor Day, but are still free to explore boardwalks and other areas on a leash.
