Medina Natural Area Leashed pets are welcome in the Medina River Natural Area. Ten miles of hike and bike trails wind through a variety of landscapes from riversides with towering pecan and bald cypress trees to uplands lined with cactus and honey mesquite.

The Medina River Greenway is an integral part of the natural area?s trail system: 2.91 miles of the Greenway trail lie within the natural area boundaries and an additional 3.73 miles traverse neighboring property managed by the non-profit Land Heritage Institute. The trails have varying levels of accessibility ranging from concrete to natural surfaces. Please see the trail maps section of this website for more information about our trail system.

At Medina River Natural Area you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities! Ride your bike, walk your dog on a leash, or take a slow hike through the natural area?s serene habitat. Bird watchers enjoy excellent birding opportunities, with specialties such as green kingfisher and painted bunting. Excellent fishing opportunities are available at designated fishing sites along the Medina River. (A fishing license is required; fishing line recycling containers are provided at every fishing site). Swimming in the river is prohibited. Horses, skateboards, and motorized vehicles (excluding wheelchairs) are not allowed on the trails.

A large covered pavilion, with six picnic tables, is available for use and may be reserved. The Natural Area also features a group campground with six tent pads, a large barbecue grill, potable water, and composting toilets. No electricity is available. There is a 0.52-mile trail to the river for campers (not available for use by the general public). The campground is available by reservation only. Reservations may be made in person at the Ron Darner Headquarters building (5800 Old Hwy 90 West).

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park Family pets are welcome on the grounds of the four missions, as long as they are on a leash or being carried. They will not be allowed into park buildings or the churches. Please police your animals and deposit waste in a trashcan. To protect the park's wildlife, please do not bring leashed pets on the Yanaguana Nature trail at Mission San Juan. WARNING: Do not leave animals unattended in your vehicle. They can die within 20 minutes in South Texas, where temperatures can reach 80 degrees by 9:00 a.m. Make sure Fido gets his Bark Ranger patch while visiting! See Details

Owners are legally and financially liable for damage or injury inflicted by their dog(s). The City of New Braunfels has no liability or responsibility for injuries in the dog park.

No dogs without people. Dogs must be under voice control at all times. No more than 3 dogs per human.

Watch your dogs at all times. Discourage barking and digging. If your dog digs a hole, fill it in.

Your dog must wear a collar in the park at all times with up to date annual vaccinations and licenses of New Braunfels visible. No spike, prong or pinch collars.

Your dog must be leashed to and from the parking area.

Clean up after your dog and dispose of waste materials properly.

No contagious or aggressive dogs. Do not let your dog mount other dogs. Watch for signs of aggression. If your dog becomes aggressive leave the park immediately.

No dogs in heat. Closely monitor un-neutered males.

Dogs must be over 4 months old.

Bring children at your own risk. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

No smoking, alcohol, glass containers, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards, other animals, or toys (including play pools) allowed in the park.

No dog or human food, except for training purposes in the agility area.

Commercial/professional dog training is not allowed, unless approved by the Parks and Recreation Department. If approved, 20% of gross sales will be remitted to the City.
