Dog Friendly Hiking Trails Near MTP Airport

Montauk Point Lighthouse offers pet-friendly trails to explore with your furry friend in New York. Leashed dogs can hike on the lighthouse's rocky ledges, which provide a spectacular view of the crashing surf below. Please note pups are not allowed inside any buildings.

Shadmoor State Preserve Trail is an easy 2.5-mile pet-friendly hike that will take about an hour to complete with Fido. Once the site of military activity, this park now provides you and your dog a place to enjoy the ocean and beach. Dogs are not allowed in public use areas and must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

Ninety-nine acre Shadmoor State Park, located one quarter-mile east of Montauk Village, features more than 2,400 feet of ocean beach accessed by two stairways. The park, named for its open, rolling geography and the shadbush that grows there, also has bluffs, freshwater wetlands that are part of the preserve, hiking trails and elevated platforms for birdwatching and enjoying the shoreline views. Visitors may picnic and saltwater fish. A maximum of two pets are allowed in day use areas unless prohibited by sign or directive. Pets are to be supervised at all times and either be crated or on a leash not more than 6-feet in length. Proof of rabies inoculation shall be produced if requested by staff. Pets are not permitted in playgrounds, buildings, golf courses, boardwalks, pools and spray-grounds or guarded beaches (this does not apply to service animals).

Point Woods Loop Trail is an easy, 3.1-mile pet-friendly hike in Montauk Point State Park that will take about an hour to complete with Fido. Explore the eastern point of Long Island and its panoramic views of ocean bluffs and the Montauk Lighthouse, or get your feet in the sand and ocean with your furry friend.
