This lookout point is at a 2,330 foot elevation above the Phoenix Valley, and is only a fifteen minute drive from downtown Phoenix. You can either drive to the top or attempt to hike the difficult three mile Holbert Trail. Try going at sunset, when the light from the sun reflect onto the rocks and makes them look bright red. Ruth Hamilton Trail at Piestewa Peak Park Ruth Hamilton Trail is pet-friendly. This popular trail is just over 3 miles in length and intersects the Quartz Ridge Trail. There is a nice observation bench at the intersection. The western section of this trail offers a number of switchbacks and is moderately rocky. Once the hiker reaches the peak, the trail descends and levels out. Although short, it is moderately popular and offers tremendous views of the downtown corridor and the northern Sonoran mountains.
