This rocky ramble in the Hudson Highlands has a “pawfect” payoff at the top, offering epic views of the Hudson River. Start your journey on a stretch of the A.T., before veering off to the much talked-about snout. When your sniffer reaches the big sniffer, snap a picture next to the Star-Spangled Banner with Bear Mountain Bridge in the background. This moderate 2.6 mile hike takes around 2.5 hours to complete.

Fishkill Ridge Trail is a somewhat difficult 5-mile hike in Clarence Fahnestock State Park in Cold Spring, NY. This dog-friendly trail offers you and your pup challenging climbs, descents, and magnificent views of the river and bridge. If you are headed out during hunting season, be sure to wear orange. Dogs must remain on a leash no longer than 10 feet and are not allowed in public areas. Be sure to let Fido take a good drink, as the only water is at the beginning and end of this trail.

The Appalachian Trail in Harriman State Park in Monroe, NY, is a difficult 11.15-mile hike that will take about 8.5 hours or overnight to complete with Fido. This pet-friendly path is possibly one of the most challenging hikes on the Appalachian Trail but also the most beautiful. Dogs must remain on a leash, and if you choose to camp, you can set up at the Wildcat Shelter, which is 2.1 miles into the hike.
