The trail leads from Springer Mountain in Georgia all the way up to Mount Katahdin in Maine, totaling 2,181 miles in length. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted along the following sections of the AT: Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina, Bear Mountain State Park, and Baxter State Park.
