Tom's Thumb Trailhead Take a hike with your dog to Tom’s Thumb in Scottsdale, AZ. There are a variety of pet-friendly trails for different skill levels, but the hardest of the trails is moderate to difficult. While hiking, you may see all sorts of wildlife, but watch out for rattlesnakes! To avoid the crowds and extreme desert heat, try to get there in the early morning. Gateway Trailhead The Gateway Trailhead in Scottsdale, AZ, has a lot of different options for hiking and education. It is pet-friendly and family-friendly. Children can receive a passport at the trailhead and get stamps at other trails in the area to win a prize at the end. There are many different trails to choose from for all skill levels, starting with a kid-friendly 0.5 mile nature trail with educational games and signs along the way. Desert Breeze Park Desert Breeze Park is a pet-friendly park in downtown Chandler, AZ. Your leashed pup is welcome to join you on the scenic walking trail around the lake. Interpretive trail markers identify plants while area wildlife can be seen throughout the park. Picacho Peak State Park Picacho Peak State Park is a dog-friendly recreation area in Picacho, AZ. Hike up the beautiful mountain with your furry best friend on one of the winding trails. Estrella Mountain Regional Park Estrella Mountain Regional Park is a pet-friendly spot in Goodyear, AZ. Leashed dogs are allowed inside the park to explore the desert and mountain trails. These 19,840 acres of desert and mountains! Located near the meeting of the Gila and Agua Fria Rivers in the southwest Valley, the park includes seasonal wetland or riparian area during our winter and monsoon rains. Iron King Trail The Iron King Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Prescott Valley! The map below shows a trailhead where you can pick up the Iron King Trail (Prescott to Prescott Valley). Sunrise Trail The Sunrise Peak Trail in Scottsdale, AZ is a great trek for more experienced hikers. This pet-friendly totals four miles in length, with a 1,100 foot elevation change. The trail is steep and rocky, and uphill almost the entire way, but when you reach the top, you can see incredible views of the McDowell Mountains and the granite formations in the area. This trail is less crowded than other nearby trails due to the difficulty. There is free parking and a water fountain at the trailhead, but no restrooms. Make sure to pack plenty of water for both yourself and for Fido. All dogs must be leashed. See Details
Fay Canyon Trail Fay Canyon Trail is a great place to take Fido on a hike in Sedona, AZ. The 2.3-mile trail is mostly flat with some rocky areas, sunny, and shady spots. The hidden canyon features a diverse array of desert plants and provides beautiful views of surrounding cliffs. Dogs are allowed as long as they're leashed and cleaned up after. See Details
Lower Tanque Verde Falls Lower Tanque Verde Falls is a pet-friendly trail in Tucszon, AZ. Your leashed pup is welcome to join you on this approximate 1.9 mile trail, commonly labeled as hard difficulty. The sign for the trailhead is marked at the parking area on eastern Redington Rd. Along the trail you'll experience rugged terrain and the beautiful Tanque Verde waterfall. Make sure your pup is leashed and has water for this three hour hike. See Details

Embark on this hike that is roughly 2.5 miles with your four-legged companion, following the trail parallel to The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa's impressive recreation of the historic Gila River. Saguaro National Park Bring Fido with you to explore the dog-friendly Saguaro National Park in Tucson, AZ. Pets are allowed only on roadways, picnic areas and paved trails. Dogs are not allowed on trails, off-road or inside visitors centers. Dog owners should keep Fido on a leash no more than six feet and should watch out for cactus spines, thorny brush, snakes, open mine shafts, scorpions, and heat stroke in their pet. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument The Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Ajo, AZ, is pet friendly. Dogs are welcome on the Palo Verde Trail, Campground Perimeter Trail, and all roads open to visitors, including the paved campground areas. Your pup can also join you on the nature trail at the Kris Eggle Visitor Center, but they must access the trail from the parking lot, not through the visitor center. Make sure you keep them on a leash under six feet for the duration of your time in the park. See Details
Kaibab National Forest Kaibab National Forest is the forest that surrounds the northern and southern portions of the Grand Canyon, and welcomes leashed dogs. The forest provides several dog-friendly hiking trails and campgrounds. Permits may be required for recreational land use. Check their website for details. Slide Rock State Park Slide Rock State Park, located just outside Sedona, AZ, is a 43-acre park in Oak Creek Canyon. This site gets its name after the slippery rocks that form a slick natural water chute. Visitors have been coming to this park to swim and catch a tan for generations. Lost Dog Wash Trailhead Lost Dog Wash Trailhead in Scottsdale, AZ, is a great choice for families, beginners, or more experienced hikers. This pet-friendly spot offers many different trails for all different skill and fitness levels, so that you can pick the hike that works best for you and your dog. At the longest, the trail is just under five miles long with only a 350-foot elevation change. This hike has plenty of options that are easy enough for children, including several short educational nature trails. Trails are clearly marked and the trailhead has plenty of parking, as well as restrooms and water fountains. Make sure to bring plenty of water both for yourself and for Fido. Tres Rios Wetlands Pet-friendly Tres Rios Wetlands in Phoenix, AZ provides approximately 480 acres of emergent wetland as a habitat for wildlife of many species while productively and naturally purifying water. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their humans on an exploration of this interesting and diverse area owned and operated by the City of Phoenix Water Services Department. You must have a permit to visit the wetlands. Permits are good for six months and can be obtained by filling out a permit request at the website below. Lookout Mountain Preserve Enjoy hiking the variety of trails through the pet-friendly Lookout Mountain Preserve in Phoenix, AZ. This mountain is a smaller cousin to the more popular North Mountain area, located just to the south. Though lower in elevation than nearby summits, it provides a chance to hike to a peak and enjoy vistas without the crowds and steep elevation gains of nearby Piestewa Peak and North Mountain. Crescent Moon Picnic Site Leashed dogs are welcome at this Sedona picnic site. One of the most photographed scenes in the southwest is towering Cathedral Rock reflected in the waters of Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing. It should come as no surprise, then, that the picnic area located at that same site is as popular as it is beautiful. People come here to fish, swim, and wade in the creek, as well as to picnic and photograph the scenery. At times it can become quite crowded. If you want the world-class beauty of Red Rock Crossing all to yourself (or nearly so) visit early in the morning or on a weekday. Some people and pups may choose to get wet. Vault toilets and beverage vending machines on site. An $11 per vehicle day-use fee is required. See Details
